My first time to Port Douglas - I was made very welcome and even had my bag carried up to the apartment - thank you. Lorraine was very friendly, warm and most helpful. While there is not always someone on duty on site, there is a telephone and telephone number available to contact someone. The apartment was spacious and clean. Beach just a few minutes away, and town about 10-15 min easy walking. I would certainly recommend Coral Apartments to friends.

I agree with the coments from the review dated Sep 4 2010. Low standard of cleanliness of room, poor service from most of the staff (when you could contact someone), poor communication between staff members, etc. After one week of things going wrong, the final straw was coming back to the room following the replacement of a faulty washing machine (after numerous reports) to find a minor flooding in the apartment due to the faulty connection of a water hose. After much mirth from one of the staff members, enough! We accepted Chris' kind offer of an 'upgrade' to Garrick House, only to find another very tired apartment, poorly serviced and cleaned-food stuffs from previous tenants still in cupboards, ants and other insects having a field day, filthy splashbacks, hygiene product wrappings still on bathroom floor, the list goes on. At least we were able to laugh when we discovered that the reception phone number had been diverted to my mobile phone number which resulted in callers requesting shuttle bus bookings. We understand that sometimes things don't go smoothly, and we are usually very easy going, however we did not spend good money to recieve such poor/lack of service, to be laughed at or ignored. We do thank Chris for his efforts.

We have traveled to Port Douglas on several occasions staying at a resort further out of town @ 3 times the price.
To us money wasn't the issue but we wanted something a bit closer. We booked with Latitude 16 at the Coral Apartments and couldn't have been happier. The staff are brilliant especially Lorraine & Guy - The apartments maybe old fashioned BUT SUPER COMFORTABLE (who wants to sit on a TRENDY couch when lay back & relax??)
Free Pay TV was an added bonus which we didn't expect. The apartments are clean, well designed, serviced regularly & the staff couldn't be better
I will never stay in Port Douglas again if I can't stay at Latitude 16.
Their friendliness & hospitality was second to none & anyone that could possibly complain should be staying elsewhere & paying $$$$$$$$ just for the name of the resort. If you want to tell your friends that you stayed at The Sea Temple or Bale etc fine ---- BUT if you want a decent, friendly holiday look no further than Latitude 16. if you want TOTAL luxury go to BEACHES but Coral Apartments with Lorraine & Guy was perfect for us. When we go away we want to be close to everything but be able to chill out in comfort.
To anyone that reads this make your own decision - In fact stay elsewhere if you want so Coral Apartments & staff are available to us

We stayed at these apartments for 7 nights as part of an around the world trip.
The apartments themselves were very average and generally tired looking but spacious and adequate. The location is good. 5 mile beach is a 5 minute walk away and it probably taked 10-15 minutes to walk into town.
The apartments are very poorly serviced-only once every 4 days and there are no cleaning products left. We had terrible service from reception-who basically were never there! During our stay we needed to contact the UK due to a medical emergency. People were trying to contact us at the hotel but were never able to get through to our room due to the lack of staffing and lack of helpfulness! This resulted in a £90 phonebill which we had to pay-totally unnecessary! When we finally managed to get hold of the owner, she told us there was nothing she could do as she had 3 other properties to look after and that we just needed to use our mobile!!!
Despite the apartments, we had a fantastic week in the tropics. Port Douglas was lovely, with a great variety of restaurants, bars and shops and the beach is beautiful and the sea safe to swim in (at least during this time of the year!) The reason we picked Port Douglas was its close proximity to the great barrier reef and this did not disappoint! It was just fantastic as was the railway trip to Kurunda and the amazing sky rail!
A very relaxing place to stay in a beautiful part of the world-just don't choose to spend such a special time of your life in such a disappointing and unhelpful set of badly run apartments! There are so many more to choose from!

To begin with we were picked up form the airport on a free transfer shuttle bus, that drove us straigh to the hotel (stopping at other hotels on the way, took about an hour). Reception was closed when we arrived, but they had left a key in a secure place with a note explaining what was what. Our apartment was on the first floor, so had to carry suitcases up stairs but being a fit family was no problem! Apartment was beautiful, 2 big double rooms and another twin bedroom. One of the doubles had an ensuite with corner bath, the other bathroom had a shower (also tumble dryer and washing machine) some of the biggest bathrooms ive seen! Balcony over looked the gorgeous four mile beach behind the palm trees. The pool was fantastic, perfect temperature and very clean, with hot tub which once we figured out how to use was lovely. Only bad thing i would say about this hotel was noise in the mornings, alot of busses and cars coming to the beach. Probably was only bad becuase of the location of our apartment right on the end by the road. This was a small price to pay though.
It was about a 10-15 minute walk into town to find lots of shops, supermarket, bottle shops, ice creams, internet cafes, loads of restaurnts, famers market on a saturday!

Would absoutely go back! Loved it.

Although look carefully at what time of year you go, ive heard wet season is not nearly so fun! (No swimming, very "wet" and verrry hot!)

I had been to Port Douglas twice with work before and thought it the most beautiful tropical place in Australia so was keen to go back for a holiday. My partner and I decided to travel there for 10 days in May 2009 and we had the perfect holiday, eventually!

We booked the Rendezvous Resort online at a good rate being promised the "renovations would create minimal disturbance" only to find the grounds covered in debris, the main pool closed, the restaurant closed, reception was temporary in one of the rooms, our room was very run down and basically a disaster, I wouldn't put up with that kind of mess and disturbance at home let alone on a holiday!

So we hired bikes and rode around town on our second day looking at a few places to stay within our savings limit (we were refunded by Rendezvous but not for another 2 months so it hit our budget hard having to pay for a second lot of accommodation). We checked out most of the Latitude 16 properties and it came down to Port Douglas Apartments and Coral Apartments because of money.

We chose Coral Apartments because of the lush grounds and the tropical pool setting. The lady at the counter was so friendly and so helpful (she even picked us up at Rendezvous in her own private car to make it easier for us to move in!) and she upgraded us to a pool view room as the place was almost empty being low season.

We had a lovely room in the centre of the second floor overlooking the kidney shaped pool. It was a simple room, basically decorated but had everything you could want in the kitchen with regards to utensils and appliances, which was wonderful seeing we did a big supermarket shop to be able to have bbqs at home for a lot of meals. The bed was comfortable, I could have done with some more blankets though, as with the doors closed and the aircon off it was still a little cold at night and I was glad I had a tracksuit to sleep in.

It was great to have a washing machine, dryer and dishwasher in the room, all for a great home away from home room and making it easier and cheaper in the long run.

The best part of the apartments was the pool area, there was a bbq next to the pool, table and chairs, sunlounges, a hammock, a day bed and even a little footbridge over the small pool which was lovely and refreshing. Lots of palm trees and tropical trees and plants surrounding the pool to create a bit fo a shield from the road. It made the pool are really forest like but it also meant there was not a lot of sunbaking time available by the pool but we snuck into the Sheraton pools and used the beach a lot too.

It was only a 10 minute walk to Macrossan Street and all the amazing restaurants to eat at, and was only a 5 minute walk to the beach.

It is not a luxurious place to stay, I can kind of liken the rooms to the type of rooms you get in Gold Coast holiday apartments, simple yet functional. But for such an expensive place as Port Douglas is, the price was amazing, location great , staff terribly friendly and had all that we needed that fit into our very tight budget.

We also hired a mini moke for the day in Macrossan Street and staying at a Latitude 16 property we got a nice little discount on the rental.

We will be going back to Port Douglas in September 2009 as a group and trying out the Driftwood Mantaray and Port Douglas Apartments, also in the Latitude 16 group.

Apartment staffed remotely (located off site). But great response to phone at reception counter, and apartment was open for us with air on. Staff arrived soon after and were helpful.
Stayed on ground floor near pool and very nice setting. Pool is perfectly adequate in a great setting. Units were older and some minor wear and tear, but were clean, newly painted, spacious, and functional.
Would definitely stay there again.
