Brilliant!
We arrived in Port Douglas looking to stay the maximum of a week, we saw availability on Wot.If.Com and enquired face-face. Paul and Lee who run the apartments are the most genuine, helpful, happy, and informative managers that you cold ask for in Port Douglas.
The Apartments are clean and well catered for, with close proximity to the town, marina and beach all well within walking distance. We are x3 adults and whilst we stayed here almost every night the no vacancy sign was up and the apartments filled with a mixture of couples, groups and families.
There was never any issue of neighbours being too loud everyone was friendly. The site also has a pool which we convened in every day and was the best in Port Douglas for safety and seclusion for the main road.

Secure, Friendly and Fun - the Lychee for all the family. We will return!

thanks Paul and Lee!

We were screening accomodation for a few days stay in Port Douglas and didn't want to spend all our money on accomodation. This place turned out to be just perfect with clean, nice and affordable rooms and a friendly staff. With walking distance to the town centre and nice restaurants next door there is no need to spend more.

We recently stayed at lychee tree .There were four adults and two children age 12 and 14 . it is my parents first visit to Australia and they thought the lychee tree was brilliant. The pool is fantastic ,my mom is a non-swimmer but how the pool is set out she made use of it everyday. We also made good use of the bbq area .We had a 1 bedroom and a 2 bedroom apartment and both apartments were very well set out and very clean and comfortable.I thought the Lychee Tree was very well situated , bottle shop on the corner , restaurants within walking distance . My husband and i walked along four mile beach every morning which was very pleasant .OUr 2 children enjoyed their stay.
Lee and Paul are very pleasant and helpul .Even telling us the best place to get fish and chips without paying tourist prices .
I would not hesitate to recommend the lychee tree and i will definetley stay there again.

We had a wonderful stay here. The apartments were very clean and nice. We used the outdoor BBQ and kitchen by the pool almost every night.
The pool is covered in stone so it looks like a pond, very cool.

Lee and Paul were very very friendly and helpful in finding us activities and directions.

We'll definitely be staying there next time we're up in Port Douglas.

If you're detail oriented and worry a lot about whether you're planning the best vacation for the time you've got there, look no further!

From the moment we contacted Lee about arrangements we knew we could relax. She helped us organize our too-short time in Port Douglas with finesse...and probably breathed a sigh of relief when we were gone!

This place is low-budget luxury at its best. Spotless, roomy, well-cooled, well-located, with super-helpful hosts who know their stuff inside and out!

You'll get great advice about best brekkies, best reef trips, what's really a tourist trap and best restaurants, to name a few things.

Hop on the beach and walk to town via the access across from the Bottle Shop on the corner. It's only a little bit out of the way.

  • Liked — Lee's personalized trip planning/Spot-on recommendations for food
  • Disliked — No wifi and internet access only during office hours, but the whole area is internet access-challenged.

The details written above on Lychee Tree says it all, but the managers Lee & Paul really make the place. Their service is outstanding, Lee works tirelessly ensuring there's always a happy smile and nothing's a bother. The complex caters for all, from families, singles, couples. The room was clean and spacious and well equipped. Loved being on the first floor sitting on the balcony enjoying breakfast or a pre-dinner drink. The pool was clean and inviting, with a great BBQ facility attached. Even had lanterns for nighttime ambience. Plenty of tour brochures to tempt you and if you needed information, Lee & Paul were always around to ask. There were car spaces available, or bikes to hire. The location was fabulous, just a short walk to Macrossan Street, but far enough to allow quiet surroundings away from traffic. The beach being only 400metres walk was a bonus. If you felt lazy there were a couple of restaurants 2 doors away and a bottle shop at the corner. I'm definately keen to return again and pass on my thanks to Lee and Paul for a memorable holiday as great managers.

In late August 2007 myself, wife and our two children aged three and four and a half holidayed at Port Douglas for our first time and the seven nights we spent at Lychee Tree made our experience a wonderful one.

The Lychee Tree is located on Davidson Street and is a leisurely ten minute walk to the main centre. Access to Lychee Tree is gained from the service road making it safer for children to walk and situated near a hostel and camping site which we found provided a nice community feel. A further upside that we found was the minimal transport noise from within Lychee Tree due to it being set a good distance from the main street. The bike track is located out the front of Lychee Tree and the track accesses all major areas of Port Douglas, a treat as we did a lot of riding with kids in tow. The added bonus was that we hired our bikes just a few doors up the road from the Lychee Tree.

The quality of service provided by managers Paul and Lee of the Lychee Tree was outstanding. Their relaxed and friendly demeanour made us feel most welcomed and contributed to our Port Douglas experience. They were a wealth of information providing us with not only the standard things to do as a family in Port Douglas such as the Rainforest Habitat and the coral reef but provided local inside knowledge of things to consider when self driving to such places as Mosman Gorge. The advice provided by both managers was provided in our interest and not for a hip pocket gain.

They both went above and beyond their call as managers to help where humanly possible, and this was exampled by Paul providing us with a lift to a wildlife sanctuary one morning when we enquired about the bus service. Another example of their generosity management’s insistence to assist with our luggage on leaving. His willingness to help, generosity and good will was most appreciated.

The pool was to our liking as it was geared towards family needs with a shallow end for the children to play and a decent depth of 1.7m for adults to enjoy. It is well landscaped with waterfall and clean with shower/toilet facilities near by. The other great things about this pool was the chance it provided to just kick back and relax to either read a good book without any distractions or catch a few rays, all with the ability to keep a close eye on the kids.

We found the barbeque area to be a central feature of the Lychee Tree, with tables set on decking both out in the open and under cover. The facility was fully equipped with cooking utensils, gazebo style covering, and a stocked fridge. We met a wonderful array of Lychee residents from across the world, in this relaxed and friendly environment, sharing beers and food to boot.

Apartments at the Lychee Tree are arranged in such a way that fosters interaction with other families or the ability to just chill out and do your own thing.

We had a two bedroom unit which was spacious, with fully functional kitchen, a good size master bedroom in a quiet location. The flyscreens were in good order enabling us to keep the windows open at night. We enjoyed the unique tropical noises at night, such as palm trees swaying in the breeze and the ability to just take in the simple pleasures, such as a tropical breeze into the bedroom and living room.

I mention the flyscreens as a feature, as we also stayed at another three and a half star accommodation in close proximity to the Lychee Tree and found the culmination of faulty flyscreens, security screens and the lack of understanding and responsibility taken by management, made our stay their an almost intolerable one. We dealt with insects of all sorts at night which definitely had a ball until belatedly we were given home brand fly spray to end the fun. It didn’t do too much to quell the local tropical insect’s enthusiasm for our bodies, and there was no joy sleeping in an insecticide filled small master bedroom. I am still experiencing the after effects of the fun and feast enjoyed by the mosquitoes! Through this experience, I can say unequivocally that not all three and a half star accommodation at Port Douglas is the same or managed the same way, so choose wisely.
