We expected way more from this resort based on ratings. This is no four star resort. There is no food area, just units and a pool. The pool looks amazing but it isn't. Over half the pool is shallow suitable for toddlers, but there is a deeper strip through the middle. Our experience was that toddlers jumped on you in the deeper areas or we were fishing them out. I have NEVER heard of a cold spa. This was. The pool and spa had no other heating and the sea was warmer than the pool. This was a big disappointment for us.

There was just one BBQ and often it was busy. We also had to carry all our food down 4 flights of stairs and back up.

We were in a two bedroom unit. It was very compact. Too small for a family of four. The kitchen was tiny with bench working space of about 50cm by 50cm. There were two hotplates and a microwave. No oven. The pots were so small I had to use two to cook the pasta in both. we couldn't all watch tv in lounge area.

I really disliked the steep stairs. We had to lug our luggage up 4 flights to get to unit and then there are a another set of steep polished wooden stairs in the unit. This would be totally unsuitable for toddlers. Even my two teenagers slipped and my husband fell badly injuring his toe. The other thing which was annoying was that the upstairs bathroom had no door. NO DOOR on a bathroom! My two teenagers hated this when showering and no one could go upstairs to the bedroom when bathroom was in use.

I also disliked the lack of wardrobe and storage space. Shelving and drawers are desperately needed here.

We didnt find management very friendly. I can sympathise with review 7 july by julianeasy. We were severly reprimmanded by Anne when we asked for fresh towels after spending a day on the reef and beach, She was so rude we went and purchased our own. Anne could be really pleasant, but just as quick you felt like she was talking to you like a child. Management were real keen to book tours through them. However, you can get discounts by booking direct. Our best trips were the ones we researched and booked by ourselves.

The free internet was great. The shower excellent. Beds were comfortable but the queen bed creaked.
air cond and fans worked well. The balcony area was unusual. The only dining table was on the balcony so you had to eat outside, rain, heat or bugs. However we enjoyed eating outside.

This was a nice place to stay, but its not four star and its no resort. Would probably suit a couple, but not really suitable for families. No space and it wasnt cheap.

we have travelled all over the world and I am extremely cautious of reviewers with only one or two reviews. I am very fair with reviews but Port Douglas reviews seem to have more one reviewers than anywhere else I have experienced. We totally endorse frogmelb review of 16 july 2011. I am very very very surprised that this resort had such a high rating on trip advisor. This was expensive accommodation for our family and there are lots of places closer to the beach. I wouldnt stay here again.

We chose Freestyle because of the reviews in Tripadvisor, and we weren't disappointed. We stayed for 7 nights and were able to cook in the apartments kitchen and utilize the shared BBQ. The pool area was great, unfortunatly the water was a little cold!
Freestyle is close enough to the shops and the beach. We found Anne and Jason very helpful and efficient. Also the free wifi is great if you need keep things rolling at work!

We recently had seven days here with our five year old daugther. We always use Trip Advisor to plan our accomodation. Some travellers refute other reviews but therein sits the beauty of varied experiences and opinions.
We had a one bedroonm apartment (as all others were booked). It was modern, comfortable with a fantastic balcony that we spent many late afternoons on, a good plasma, pay TV and wifi- a bonus. Breakfast overlooking the pool is a great way to start the day. With our daugher on the fold out bed, living space was certainly limited and I would not book a one bedroom again if there was more than two of us. The main street is within easy walking distance (and this is our fourth time to Port Douglas) but a stretch when we asked our five year old to do it three times in one day- a hire car would be beneficial if you have a young family. These are the only two points I would make but they did not diminish the enjoyment. As noted above it was our experience that may or may not assist others.

A very limited resort with a small pool with only one very small section that was deep...We were very lucky the weather was perfect so we were out most of the time...The managers of this resort are lovely, very helpful and very knowledgable and the place is clean and close to the beach and town. We holidayed here for 2 weeks and Port Douglas is wonderful. The resort has a tiny kitchen with no bench to speak of and it was very very hard to prepare meals. There are 2 very hard to get at hot plates and a microwave and thats pretty much it. The only table was outside and if the weather wasn't great you had no choice but to eat on your knee. The breeze blew papers etc off the table so it wasnt much fun.. The bedrooms were clean and roomy but the sitting area was tiny about the same size as a bedroom and with 2 adults and 2 almost adult teenagers it was very squeezy.I looked again at the brochure and like most places the photo makes the lounge area look much bigger. Two people had to squash up on one end of the couch if we all wanted to watch tv and we had moved it back as far as we could..I think it would be very hard with smaller children as well as there was nowhere for them to play.Ann (The manager said the couple rooms were larger but we didnt get a chance to check them out.)There is also nowhere else for the kids to go if they were bored(which thankfully with the weather, they were not!!)It was quite hot inside the rooms even though there was airconditioning in the main part. There were slat doors to all the bedrooms so again privacy was virtually nil!!You needed the doors open at night but then you heard everyone else and no one could sleep if the tv was on..all a bit tricky! No food available at "The resort" but with the weather an easy walk to town.
