Verandahs Boutique Apartments

I would highly recommend Verandahs as a place to stay in Port Douglas. The new owners are friendly and extremely helpful, suggesting and arranging tours for guests as well as recommending restaurants and things to do. The apartments are great - well fitted out with plenty of space for 4 people. Having space is a great bonus as it means even when it rains (and it does rain - its the tropics) you have space to relax, sit on the covered balcony, watch a DVD etc.
There is also a pool and communal BBQ area for all to enjoy.
Will definitely go back again

Stayed at Verandahs for 4 nights in a lovely 2 bedroom apartment overlooking the pool. We were very pleased as we walked into our immaculate apartment. You read recommendations but never know for sure until you walk in the door. We thought we had the best place of our holidays in Sydney but the Verandahs was an equal. The units are well kept, well furnished and so clean! I would not stay anywhere else. I know there will new ownership and hope they will keep the same standards as Lola and Rodney have kept. The only hint I would make is the lack of a lift to the 3rd floor. It was no problem for us but ask for a lower floor if it is a physical necessity. The view and exercise was great.

Just got back from a holiday in Nth Qld and spent 4 great nights at the Verandahs,

The apartment was excellent with plenty of room for one couple and two lively 20 year old girls. Each room was individually air conditioned and our balcony vereanday overlooked the pool area. It was very spacious with an extra TV in the double room which came in handy when there was a conflict of choices on TV.

The locati0on is great - just around the corner from Macrossan ST (the main Street) and close to the shops restaurants etc.

The couple who manage the property were very helpful and friendly and a pleasure to meet as we came and went from our apartment. We did not take beachtowels with us from Adelaide and were able to hire them from reception for only $1.00 per day.

The apartment is fully equipped with everything you could need, dishwasher, microwave, and complete laundry.

Our two bed apartment for four adults was only $150 per night because of off peak rates.

We will certainly returning for another holiday and stay at The Verandahs.

We (family of 4) stayed at Verandah's for 4 nights in mid-Oct 2006. We selected the property based on reviews on Tripadvisor. While our overall experience was not bad, we came away feeling a bit disappointed:

Unfortunately the owners hit a family emergency so were not around to offer the personal service, advice on tours etc that we expected. We found it odd that the property was left up to a relative nursing a very young infant - We couldn't fault her for best effort in keeping the place running, but ultimately felt the experience fell short of what was advertised.

We knew going in that the apartment was serviced only twice a week but despite checking in on a Thursday and checking out on a Monday, that meant we didn't get fresh bedding or towels at all in our whole stay. Seemed odd, and it was awkward to go back to reception to ask for the odd fresh towel in the evening, when there was nobody there to help.

The apartment was well fitted out and clean with very nice bathrooms, including a huge walk-in shower in the master. There was a patio with doors that could be opened way up. We had a problem with some mini-ants (smallest I've ever seen) that meant we had to put all food in the fridge, even breakfast cereal, cookies etc. Not a big deal, just a bit of pain.

Location was superb. Right next to a fantastic little bakery (Brumby's) so we were able to get our own fresh breakfast and newspaper each day. Just 1 short block from the main street in the village with lots of restaurants. Also, just 1 block from the beach - but don't expect parasols and cocktails, it's very unspoiled and more of a place for a nice walk than a day in the sand (the beach is very flat and the tide must come all the way into the treeline, because it's firm and smooth, not fluffy and sandy).

If we were going back we'd probably try a different property - there are many there.

In terms of day trips:
- Snorkeling on the reef is expensive, but a must. We went with the company with the blue/yellow boats and brochures (think Ikea look and you'll spot it) and were super-impressed.
- Hartley's crocodile farm is a great half-day out. There's a good sequence of various programs starting at 1pm, that will keep you busy/interested/engaged all afternoon.
- For visiting the Daintree, I recommend Cooper Creek Wilderness; much less touristy and truly off the beaten path and genuine.

We recently stayed at the Verandahs from November 7th to the 12th. Everything was amazing as the previous reviews stated. The value was excellant and furnishing were of a high quality standard with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Close to the town of Port Douglas and a 1 minute walk to 4 Mile Beach. I would highly recommend Verandahs to anyone looking to stay in Port Douglas. My family will be visiting the area next year and they definately will be staying there for 4 star accomodations as a very affordable price.

Our family stayed at Veranda's in August 06 for 9 nights. Two adults and two children were not a problem in these well appointed 2 bed , 2 bath apartments. All apartments are furnished to a high standard with a small welcome pack waiting for you. The location is great, two minutes walk to the main street with small bakery just two doors down the road. Port Douglas is very quaint and you can walk from Verandah's to the rest of town within 15 minutes.
The pool is small (but it's the same size as most other apt's in PD) but great for cooling off. The beach is just a few minutes walk away and great for the kids to play about.
Management team were very helpful and booked our reef trips (Calypso was great) and airport transfers.
We found the restaurants got very busy in the evenings so booking is recommended, but there is a great choice to suit all the family.
Would have no hesitation in recommending Verandah's to anyone wanting a relaxing place to stay whilst in Port Douglas.

Our family of 4 recently stayed at these apartments in Port Douglas and had a fantastic time. The 2 bedroomed apartments are furnished to a high standard with all the equipment and facilities needed to make your stay very comfortable.

The pool is small but perfectly adequate with a communal barbecue area supplied with gas and utensils.

The apartment have balconies which although close to other apartments, are secluded and large with a patio dining table and chairs.

The owners/managers are very friendly and helpful and this was a very pleasant place to stay.

Highly recommend and hope I can rerturn some day.
