Verandahs ticked all the boxes for us - easy walking distance to cafes, restaurants, shops, the beach and the marina. Apartments are older style, a good size and comfortably furnished, with everything we needed. Be aware that pictures on the website were probably taken some time ago, and everything isn't brand new, but maintenance and cleanliness are up-to-scratch. We were on the top floor at the back of the building, overlooking Owen St, so there was some minimal traffic noise but worth the trade-off for getting the afternoon sun. And this is PD, so that's not traffic! Be aware too that's it's two good flights of stairs to the top floor, so if you're over 90 or have one of those orange "Heavy" tags on your suitcase, you might need a breather on the way up. Being on the top floor meant we didn't hear any of the other residents, even though there were lots of families with kids of all ages. The (thankfully) heated pool was popular with the kids, unfortunately not many spots in the sun due to the lush gardens and configuration of the buildings, there was shade most of the day. I think that's probably a good thing most of the year when it can get really hot, but coming from the depths of the Victorian winter, we were craving a bit of sunshine. Not to worry, the beach is less than five minutes walk away, and there's plenty to do in the surrounding area - just ask Sue at the front desk and she'll happily recommend and organize your days for you. We had a wonderful sail to the Low Isles, and swam with turtles. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: We had a room on the top floor, with a lovely sunny balcony, perfect for the afternoon sun in mid winter - exactly what we asked for.

Our family has just spent nine wonderful nights at Verandahs in Port Douglas. These apartments although at the top of the main street into town were so quiet. Couldn't beat the location, 50mtrs to Macrossan Street with all the shops and restaurants and 100mtrs in the other direction to the start of Four Mile beach. The heated pool was absolutely beautiful, we swam everyday and most times there was no one else in the pool (noticed other places with beautiful pools had no one in them as they were not heated and water was to cold), you would not have known that all 20 apartments were occupied. Sue and Greg the managers were absolutely fantastic, Sue booked all our trips and everything was hassle free, the kids loved coming into reception and telling Sue what we had been up to for the day. A great place to stay and would recommend it to anyone.

Amazing apartment in a wonderful location, Verandahs exceeded expectations. Sue was marvellous, both with the kids and in handing out practical and very helpful information, from where to eat to what to do during our stay. All her suggestions were spot on. The apartment was a true home away from home, with every need catered for, spacious, modern appliances, ensuite etc. We were in a room on Davidson Street which is central to everything. The pool is HEATED which makes a massive difference if you want to spend time in water! All in all, our only disappointment was in leaving! We will definitely be back. Book a pool view room and stay a week. That's what we'll be doing next time. Thanks Sue for making our stay so memorable.

Verandahs is in a great location. We wanted a place that was close to town and the beach and this place is perfectly located. I was worried that Davidson St would be noisy but our apartment was 2nd floor in the rear section overlooking the pool and it was very private. The place was well appointed, decorated tastefully and very comfortable with everything we needed. There is a french press for coffee and a teapot, wireless internet, bicycles for hire, everything.

The best part of verandahs are the hosts, Sue and Greg, who were a mountain of information and were always available for anything, or information, we needed. A few weeks before our stay, I called Sue and asked her some questions about reef and rainforest tours and she had great recommendation and was able to explain the advantages of each provider so that we could narrow it down. She was able to recommend a reef experience that suited my wife and I as divers that also had a great intro program for our teenage daughter so, now she has tried SCUBA and is pumped for more. The recommendation for Cape Trib, Daintree, and Bloomfield track was great. We had a couple of days just cycling around and Greg had our bikes and beach towels ready when we asked. It seemed like we had personal assistants on call.

She really had great recommendations for restaraunts. The Port has a lot of options ranging from high end to pub food and Sue was able to navigate that and get us to some great places me may have walked by. Port Douglas is a great relaxing place and Sue, Greg, and Verandahs is really well tuned into it. Great stay.

An ideal location as only a very short stroll into town and all it's gorgeous restaurants. Rooms well supplied and adequate though our bed was extremely uncomfortable. Our stay was made by one of the best receptionists, sue. Nothing was to much trouble and she was a fountain of imformation and help

Room Tip: Upstairs overlooking pool.
