“Another great Port Douglas Holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

This was our 3rd time to Port Douglas in 3 years, we have stayed at different apartment complexes each time, one being the Coconut Grove (Honeymoon), which is why we have been back, as we love Port!

We stayed at the Mantra Aqueous for 11 nights in a one bedroom apartment on the 02nd Floor (above the swim-out rooms on the northern side), we found the room very clean, tidy and efficient. Having a fully kitted out Kitchen and Laundry is so useful, we washed our clothes daily and cooked meals here and there.

Upon arrival at the Mantra about 4pm on the Saturday, we were given our key to our room, after being up from 3.30am (NZ time) and 7 hours spent flying, all we wanted to do was freshen up, go have a drink and something to eat at the Rattle & Hum Bar to watch the Crusaders Game... When we entered our room, we realised it hadn't been cleaned from the previous people, there were towels all over the bathroom floor, the bed hadn't been made and the rubbish bin was over flowing with wine bottles on the floor. My Husband went down to reception to advise the girl (Emily), who was very disappointed and apologetic. We were told to leave our luggage in the room and about 5min later the girls came in to clean the room, who were also very apologetic. We walked over to the bottle shop, grabbed a bottle of Bubbles and sat at the BBQ area till our room was cleaned. Emily was lovely and gave us 2 glasses to drink our Bubbles, so all in all, it was dealt with quickly and professionally, we also got Free use of the room safe ($20), as compensation for our room not being cleaned upon arrival, which was a very nice gesture.

The Spa Pool, or should I say Spa BATH outside on the deck of apartment, was well, interesting, it took forever to fill and once you sit in, it's quite shallow, very safe and good for kids, however, it took nearly 30-40min to fill, lol - We only used this once, wasn't a biggie at all, just very odd!

The wooden shutters, we found were quite good, as we could open them and lock the room, so we're getting fresh air into the apartment, also good when getting out of the shower, as you were still very hot, so having the bathroom door open and the shutters open in the bedroom was good for me (personally), cooled me down a bit and didn't feel so sticky!

At about 10am/11am most mornings, we would go down by the Pool to read our books and sunbathe, the southern side got most of the morning/afternoon sun, with the northern side getting the late afternoon/evening sun. The Pool was quite cold, however, as im not one to swim, my Husband got in and did laps (training for Ironman). The only complaint i would have about the southern side (nitpicking), is the noise that comes from the complex next door (Verandahs), as their Pool is right over the fence, which meant you could constantly hear babies & kids skylarking and Adults talking - it didn't bother me, however, it was just strange to have one noisy complex, while you're sunbathing in peace (or trying to).

We picked the best time to go as we had 25-28 degrees everyday, getting up at 6am for a run down four mile beach or run to the look out was spectacular, everyone you pass is so friendly and they always smile or say "Hello", or "Good Morning".

Location is great, love walking past all the shops everyday, if you walk down the road 4-5 times a day like we did, it's actually good for you, I am sure I lost a kilo or 2, even with all the drinking and eating I did :o)

The Staff at the Mantra always looked so happy, smiley and always greeted you when walking in or out of the reception area. Emily confirmed our transfers for us before leaving as were leaving before reception opened!

Was sad to leave, as i feel Port is my 02nd home and we wouldn't hesitate in staying at the Mantra again, we're even hoping to go back next August for longer and booking the Mantra again! We normally stay 14-15 nights, this time was a little shorter and we both felt we could've stayed longer as the weather was amazing and the room we had was comfortable enough to laze around and watch TV, also sitting on the deck having a wine and a bite to eat... never mind! I could live in Port quite easily, it's such a friendly thriving little town.. though it did bug me when I would see people who looked so grumpy, as why, you're in Port :o)

Room Tip: Northern side gets more Sun in the rooms, however the Southern side gets more sun during the day by...

we were excited about our trip to PD and after reading the reviews on TA and good experiences with Mantra hotels we decided to book here. I was so disappointed in the build up of grime in the room & soiled carpets. The Mantra were very understanding but FNQ took a lot of convincing that they had not booked us into a luxury apartment . We sent photographs to prove our point & even after agreeing to a full refund did not do so until 21 days later. They were unable to help us with accommodation when we were unhappy. until there was a problem their customer service was excellent - once there was a problem it was customer driven. Not even a hint of an apology or any additional help provided.

Room Tip: Do not book through the hotel & not FNQ Luxury apartment or like brokers as they are too remove...

Excellent position, clean tidy unit we had a upstairs spa hotel room. Would option for the larger 1 bedroom unit next time. Clean and well maintained BBQ area ..a little noisy in mornings with local businesses getting pick ups etc..

Probably only thing would like to see next time is cheaper wifi seemed extremely expensive ..on a whole good experience.

We stayed for 6 nights here and wish we could have had longer! Arrived after midnight and used entry by buzzer where staff was helpful and instructions were very clear.
Apartment on second floor was lovely - clean, modern and just right for the two of us. We did not use the kitchen much but all the facilities looked good and the washing machine (in a cupboard) was excellent. It is situated just right as Macrossan, the main street for shops and restaurants, is just round the corner and Four Mile Beach is a very short walk away. We found everyone friendly and helpful and would not hesitate to recommend Mantra Aqueous On Port to our friends and family.

Great location, although the pools are cold even if you are from a cold climate.
Rooms are comfortable and a good size. The elevator comes as a welcome surprise, if you are not as young as you use to be or have problems with stairs.
All staff were found to be helpful, friendly and courteous.
Would recommend to friends, but would tell them to stay on the southern side as the northern side gets noisy. Also bring a wetsuit for the winter months dip in the pool.

Room Tip: Souther side rooms are quieter.

I recently stayed at Mantra Aqueous for 2 nights with my husband and 6 month old daughter. We opted for the 1 bedroom apartment as it was more in our price range than the swim out apartments on the ground floor. The reception staff were lovely and checked us in and out promptly with a smile.

I was a little worried about staying on a higher level as we were carrying our luggage, a portacot and a pram however was pleasantly surprised to find they had a lift. I have stayed in many places in Port Douglas and I have never once seen an elevator so for parents this is a huge plus. It enabled us to get our daughter to sleep in her pram and leave the hotel for dinner of an evening without disturbing her. Bonus!

Overall the apartment was tidy and had a fully functional kitchen and laundry, another plus when travelling with a baby, as there were bottles to be sterilized in the microwave and baby food to prepare. The bedroom had a king sized bed which was comfortable and a large bathroom and shower. There was no bath inside, however there was a round tub /spa on the balcony which was wonderful, especially in August where the nights were still a bit chilly!

The only downfall was that there was no TV in the bedroom (this might sound like nitpicking, but its a nice little luxury when on holidays!) and also, no dishwashing liquid. I thought this might be because people would put it in the spa instead of bubble bath!? either way though, there is a store very close by not to mention a bakery and bottle shop so all of the essentials are within walking distance.

Another negative - rooms situated on the Macrossan Street side of the hotel (north?) seem to be noisier than those on the southern side. We were woken at midnight by wine bottles being emptied into the industrial bins behind the restaurants and also by the morning garbage collector in the early hours. This is no fault of the hotel, just a negative if you are a light sleeper. The morning sun was lovely though, but if you want a better sleep then the southern side of the resort might be a better bet. The resort overall seems fairly quiet though, in the halls and around the pools. Very relaxing.

There are 4 pools at the property and we had a quick dip in two of them. Water was still a bit chilly being winter in FNQ but the sun was warm and lovely. There were a few patches of sun but the swim out rooms are probably your best bet if sunbaking by the pool is your idea of a holiday. The beach is only a few minutes walk too as is the main drag. Location wise this place is pretty unbeatable and we are keen to stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side may be quieter, get a swim out room if you want sun!

My wife and I just stayed 7 nights in a swim out spa room. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would probably stay again. If we were to suggest improvements it would be to change the pool so that it is heated - it is too cold and was the biggest disappointment of our stay - we wouldn't swim in it.
