Mantra Aqueous On Port
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed December 30, 2007

My boyfriend and I stayed at Mantra Aqueous after reading good reviews here on trip advisor. We had a fantastic stay and felt that it truly did live up to our expectations!

We stayed in a hotel room (all come with a spa on the balcony) and were glad that we did not pay extra for a swim up room as we appreciated the privacy of being off the ground floor. In addition to this we had excellent daily servicing and access to some kitchen facilities which was a bonus to us that we weren't expecting.

Despite being clean, nicely appointed (loved the nautical style pools), being modern and having generally friendly staff, the main appeal of Mantra aqueous was the location in Port Douglas. Its only a very short walk to the main street and all of the wonderful restaurants and shops however there was no noise or feeling like you were in the middle of the town. We'd recommend our friends to stay here especially off season when you can get some bargains on the price!

If you do stay here make sure you have a meal at Zinc Restaurant (next door to Mantra Aqueous) as it was one of the best we tried of Port Douglas's amazing places to eat!

We had 5 nights at the Aqueous in early November. I had read alot of reviews on Trip Advisor and decided due to location and price range that the Aqueous would suit our stay. We booked a hotel style room but were upgarded to a swim up room on arrival. This made our holiday! The rooms were clean and had everything we needed. I appreciated the fact that they did not stock the bar fridge and also that a DVD player was provided. I would highly recommend eating at Zinc and the sunset specials at On the Inlet. We decided to go with Calypso for the reef tour which was also a good choice. We hired a car and vistied Cape Trib and Mossman Gorge which was well worth a look. Overall Port Douglas is a place to relax and enjoy the weather and food.

My family of 2 adults & 2 10 yr old daughters have just returned from a 7 night stay at Mantra Aqueous on Port and we were VERY impressed by the quality of the accommodation as well as the staff who are very friendly & only too happy to help, thanks Sarah!!
We had a 2 bedroom swim up apartment which consisted of a hotel room & a 1 bedroom apartment which are both situated behind an outer door which allows you the use of the two areas. Not only that, we had 2 bathrooms, 2 Spas on private patios complete with table & chairs as well as access to the magnificent pool from our very own pool deck with 2 deck chairs!! My daughters thought it great having their own space, complete with TV and their own ensuite!!
The decor and furnishings in the unit are modern, fresh and clean, with everything you could want. Airconditioners AND fans in all rooms as well as 2 TVs with PayTv. Kitchen was well equipped with full size fridge, dishwasher, convection microwave oven, granite benchtops, plenty of cupboard space and plates, cups, cutlery etc; even had a coffee plunger. Laundry was great complete with dryer, sink, iron & board. Bathrooms were very large including a hairdryer. Unit was serviced every 4 days, which was great. An added bonus was a small supply of toiletries, toilet paper, tissues, milk, dishwashing liquid & dishwasher liquid along with a tea towel which allowed you to get settled in.
Pools and surroundings were warm & spotless with adequate deckchairs & a bbq area was available. Pools dont have a shallow end so it may prove a problem for travellers with toddlers. Also, on arrival you were given the use of pool towels for the duration of your stay, free of charge.
We hired a vehicle so were glad to have the secure underground parking as well as a security entrance at the front of the complex for after hour use.
You couldn't get a better location being within easy walking distance of EVERYTHING!! yet still very private and peaceful.
Port douglas itself is a beautiful little town, with plenty to do and see.
We did a tour with Tony"s Tropical Tours as well as Low Isles with Wavedancer. Both extremely well run and enjoyable days.
Only negative was the mosquitos, they like to dine out too!! Make sure you take insect repellent.
Overall I would say an excellent establishment in an excellent location with excellent staff!!
Highly Recommend.

Booked a holiday in Port Douglas with my wife and 2 children (6 & 2yrs). Had looked for a 1 bedroom apartment (happy to share existing bedding) but for some reason in Port Douglas you can only have a maximum of 3 people in a 1 bedroom apartment, even if they are toddlers.
Decided on Mantra Aqueous based upon location (close to town) and views on website.
Beautiful modern looking and spacious rooms with excellent facilities. It had a kitchen with dishwasher and full laundry - handy when traveling with kids. Our 2 bedroom apartment was a combination of 1 bedroom apartment and studio with seperate doors which can stay open - as there is a door leading to both rooms.
An excellent feature of the Mantra are the swimming pools - one on each side of the complex, so at all times of the day you can swim in the sun or shade if you prefer.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. No internet (coming soon) but close by was an icecream shop with internet cafe - plenty of terminals and quite cheap.
The only bad feature was that our bedroom had wooden shutter windows only - no glass and not sound proof. Therefore, as being close to town, sometimes you can get woken up in the morning by garbage trucks or construction noise. Got woken up at 3am one morning by returning drunken revellers singing Oasis's "Wonderwall" (great rendition though).

Coming back to Port Douglas we would happily stay again at this Mantra - a home away from home.

A word of caution, restaurants and meals in Port Douglas are very expensive (given its remote location). Bring some groceries - Mantra has excellent kitchen facilities.

Stayed here for 5 nights as we were attending a wedding in Port Douglas. This hotel is really nice although the corridors maybe looked a bit tired. The room however was very nice and we had a big room with kitchen and lounge as well as a private jacuzzi on the balcony - which all comes standard! The pool was great although pretty cold! Fab location as 5 mins from beach and even less to shops and restaurants. Would definitley stay here again. Worthwhile doing the Low Isles tour to the reef and the Mossman Gorge/Daintree River boat trips. Port Douglas is a great, laid back fun place with lots of choice for good restaurants.

We had 4 nights at Aqueous on Port, 2 adults & 2 children aged 10 and 8 yrs. From our first meeting with the receptionist we were impressed by the attitude, appearance and standards.
We had a top floor, 2 bed appartment which was fantastic, kids were blown away by having their own hot-tub on the balcony. Standard of finish and equipment was all excellent. The staff were always courteous and helpful, offering advice on everything from reef trips and restaurants to the local supermarket.
The only minor irritation was some noise from the road/construction site early in the morning. We had rooms at the rear of the property and the adjacent building was having some work done. Well it has to be done at some time and we were there in the winter.
Having said that, this did not spoil a wonderful stay and was a truly memorable place to help my wife "celebrate" becoming 40. We would not hesitate in returning.

We stayed in Mantra Aqueous for 3 nights after Verandahs and moving from an apartment to a bedroom made the room seem very small - I think apartments are better all round for Port Douglas. The room was nice but nowhere even to hang your clothes! Shower was amazing though and the spa rooms have your own hot tub on the balcony - nice touch.

the outside area was great, pools huge and very quiet and a good communal BBQ area as well.

If you go to Port Douglas definitely go to Salsa for a great meal and we loved our trip with Malaiata to the Low Isles - very personal only 22 people on board and you get to properly sail as well. We went with Calypso to the Outer Reef which was good but a more commercial set up.

Enjoy, PD is a fab place to unwind!
