My partner and I stayed here after Sydney Mardi Gras - the resort is set in a beautiful location near Port Douglas. The main property and grounds are what you would expect at a premium resort - wonderful commons area, restaurant/bar, and beautiful pool and jacuzzi with surrounding gardens overlooking the beach.

The rooms in the main area of the resort are more like a hotel/motel - comfortable but nothing special. The TV's were old and only had a few channels to choose from. One big issue though, was the lack of internet access. Not only do they not have wi-fi, but they do not have in-room or in-lobby internet access. The only time we were able to go online was through a laptop made available by one of the staffmembers. We expected this service to be available from a premium resort.

A couple of stand-outs were the staff and the food. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they went out of their way to make our stay fun for us and others staying at the resort. And the food was good, and they change-up the menu alternating between a buffet and the regular menu. The breakfast buffet was simple but fine, served each morning.

Staying at Turtle Cove is expensive, however. We were part of a package with a 5 night minimum, which included breakfast/dinner. Unfortunately drinks weren't included and the prices were expensive, even at happy hour each night. While they did their best, in the end it was just too expensive and we would have stayed at another place for few nights, or booked last minute to avoid the package.

Turtle Cove has the potential to be top-notch. They have a good thing going, but need to work on some details to make the experience worth the rates they charge.

I have just returned from 5 days at this beautiful resort. My only regret is I did not stay longer. The place really is a tropical dream, though at times a wet one for me with all the rain, and I cannot fault the place.
I was welcomed warmly and given a tour of the facilities (ask the bar staff for the hidden tour extra's, they know everything) and shown to a beautiful clean room with a fabulous (i had to say that word at least once) view that I loved waking up with.
The food was good, not exceptional, but certainly nothing to complain about. Gotta say, they cook steak well, possibly a bit expensive could be my only comment here.
Service from the reception staff, to the room staff to the bar staff was always bright, breezy and nothing was ever too much effort.
The beaches are some of the best in the world. The pool can best be described as refreshing after the midday sun, and very welcome (try a turtle race with some of the guests).
Turtle Cove, thank you. It was a year in the making to get there, and none of you let me down.
Pete

This was our fourth visit to Turtle Cove over the past decade, and we love it as much as ever. This unpretentious, ideally located gay beach resort is unmatched anywhere we've traveled. We always choose the more expensive beach-front rooms, given that we travel so far to get there, but all the accommodations appear comfortable and up to date. A major re-hab is in the works with large flat-screen TVs and other room comforts.

Many years ago we were a bit skeptical of the "gay resort" label, fearing it may be just a cheesy "sex holiday" locale. I guess it could be that if you like, but what we have come to appreciate most is the relaxed comfort, the perfect beach location and the great mix of men and women who stay there--we've made new friends each visit. Having been there at different times of the year, I must say that the American Labor Day time-frame seems ideal--it's end of winter/early spring in Australia, and the weather couldn't be better: not too hot, warm ocean water and no "stingers" which can plague the area in Australian summer.

There have been rumors that Turtle Cove has "gone straight" which is apparently keeping some gay vacationers away. The new family owners have a gay son and were extremely friendly and accommodating.

Our only disappointment this time was the quality of the food: it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either, and the limited number of options didn't change during our 5 days there. Nevertheless, we are already planning to return next year with a group of friends from the states.

We had a great time at Turtle Cove, The staff are great fun, special mention to Terry and Rob.
Weather wasnt the best but didnt matter. Locals who visited made you feel welcome and other guest were happy to chat. It feels like a holiday with friends, not a sterile resort. Will definetly go back.
