“Top accommodation in Port Douglas!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

We recently stayed at the Meridian during our stay in Port Douglas during which time we got married.
We are just so glad we chose to start at the Meridian! We have been up to Port Douglas several times before and this was by far the best and not just because we got married.
It was absolutely the best week of our lives and the hospitality and friendly nature of the staff at the Meridian just made it that much better.
We received a room upgrade where they even left wine and cheese in the fridge and rose petals on the bed!
We stayed in one of the apartments on the pool deck with our own private spa area as well, it was peaceful, beautiful and luxurious. Our own private pool deck that we could swim up to was awesome as well!!
The service went above and beyond and we are just so grateful for all that was done for us.
A huge thank you to the staff at the Meridian, we will certainly be back! And highly recommend to anyone travelling to Port Douglas especially if you want a couples retreat away from kids!!
Georgia and Jason Tierney

Room Tip: We loved our room on the pool deck!

I never got the chance to stay at this hotel as my online booking was accepted and then half an hour later CANCELLED! All because they made a mistake on their website and won't honour the rate advertised!

I made a booking on this hotels website for a one night stay for later this year (yes I received an email confirmation) only to have it cancelled not long after. I called them straight away to ask what had happened and I was informed by the receptionist that they couldn't accept my booking as that room is only available for minimum 3 night stay and that they had in fact made an error on their website (it stated minimum 1 night stay at $345 per night). I told her that they have to honour the advertised rate but she informed me that "they will be losing money if they sell me this room for one night so no we can't accept your booking".

I don't know what customer service school this kid went to but I'm pretty sure telling a customer that "my boss told me that being a small business we will lose money so we are in no way able to accept this booking so um yeah I'm really sorry.." is kind of a bad thing to say to a customer because you know what sweetheart, I don't give a damn if you make profit at the end of the day. That's not my problem and it sure as hell ain't my problem if you can't get the right rates on your website.

You advertise a rate, you are to honour it. Plain and simple.

So if you really want to stay somewhere in Port Douglas that pretty much only cares about your money and doesn't really care about customer service then this place is just for you. Knock yourselves out.

We had a 1 bed spa apartment on the top floor. Great king size bed as I'm fairly fussy about a comfortable bed. Well equiped apartment and generously size 2 person spa which was very well used (especially after ocean swims and snorkelling). The complex is a handy location to the centre of Port Douglas CBD and Marina area with regards to walking for eating purposes whilst not to busy/noisey if it was closer in.

Room Tip: If you are arriving after hours, get clear instructions as to where the room is as there is a lack o...

My girlfriend and I stayed for just under a week at the Meridian and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our room was not overly big, but still big enough for a huge, comfy bed, a small table to eat at and a reasonable sized bathroom and a small balcony hidden among the trees.

The room we stayed in was a Premier Studio, on the second floor, overlooking the main road, yet there was noticeable noise at all. It was very quiet and peaceful, set amongst the idyllic gardens. The room contained everything we needed, as we ate out each night, cooking wasn't a requirement. But everything else you'd expect in a hotel room was there. Be warned, it can get warm, even in winter, but a ceiling fan and air conditioning will keep you and the room cool. It was suggested by the owners that we keep it on at night to sleep soundly and I can vouch for that.

The bathroom had a shower, bath and spa all in one, but we recommend one person at a time in the spa as two people is a tight fit! There were enough towels for our stay and items such as soap, toilet paper were well-stocked.

There was a washing machine and dryer right out our front door, which is handy should you be staying a little while and start to run out of clean clothes! Washing powder is available at reception.

The underground car park is secure and ideal if you have a car, even though many tours pick you up from the front door, having a car is a must if you like to do your own thing.
The beach is a short walk from the hotel, while the main street of Port Douglas is a five minute walk, there you'll find no shortage of dining options and all main services are provided - banks, supermarkets etc.

If we return to Port Douglas, we'll certainly consider staying at the Meridian again. It's a very nice hotel at a very affordable price.

The Meridian Port Douglas is a good accomodation: clean, affordable, kindly personnel.
We booked a 1 Bedroom superior apartment: the apartment is big and well furnished. The hot tube on the balcony is fantastic.
The personnel is very kindly and they can book for you the best tours.

Location: well positioned between the beach and the main street (Macrossan street)

We hope to come back soon!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

My wife and I stayed here for 9 nights in June, had great weather, and stayed in a 1 bedroom superior apartment on 2nd floor. We had requested a top floor as we are both light sleepers, but were told this could not be guaranteed (we did not get one) and that the floors & walls are very solid with no complaints having been made in this regard. Unfortunately we woke to loud noises of furniture moving above us every morning of our stay - not one time did we wake naturally despite purchasing/using ear plugs after the first night. Also kept awake a couple of nights due to music/tv noise from next door. Disappointing, especially having booked this break specifically to rest up after a busy time at work, but just a case of buyer beware - they did not tell us outright lies or promise a top floor, so we blame ourselves for this.

Positives - clean room, presented consistent with website pictures, nice pool area, reception people pleasant enough, good location. Comfortable king size bed was the best feature!

Other negatives - despite being on the middle level and overlooking the pool, the apartment felt quite dark during the day - we always had lights on when we were home, even when the skies were blue with perfect sunshine outside. Other things mostly minor ... the 'internal' laundry facilities were shared with another apartment, which we hadn't realised - we like to put washing on in the morning on our way out, but instead had to wait so we weren't inconsiderate to our neighbours. We cook for ourselves most nights, and for us the "full kitchen facilities" were more of a kitchenette, e.g. no oven, not much space to prepare food, no real space for storing food.

This was our fourth stay in Port Douglas and was our least favourite to date, partly due to value for money (we've had bigger, more spacious accommodation for less even closer to the beach & main street than this, or for similar prices had a much more luxurious experience). Most of all though, we felt a distinct lack of warmth or generosity of spirit while there .. and our interactions with the front desk felt like they were suspicious of us for some reason the whole time. Not sure what we did! I'd say it was the fact that we lost one of the room keys on a run along the beach one day, but it was there before that (and they charged us $30 for replacing it, so unlikely to be out of pocket for it). While we were there, most of the clientele seemed older / retired age group - perhaps they don't like the younger folks!

Anyway, we won't be back, but others seem to have had a happier stay. I can see why some may like it, so have a good look at the website and make up your own mind whether it's what you want. And if you're a light sleeper, make sure you pack your ear plugs!

Room Tip: Ensure you guarantee a top floor if you're a light sleeper

Self Contained Premier room was as advertised, and very clean and fresh, room was aired and air conditioning was on for us on arrival. Great outlook over the pool and westerly toward the mountains. Heated pool, spa pool, and gardens perfectly maintained. Secure basement car park has wide bays and is well lit, transfer your groceries from your car boot into the shopping trolley provided and then straight to your kitchen via the elevator from the car park. Every tourist brochure for the district is available in the foyer, the lovely receptionists will do the booking for you. And best of all, location, location, location, it's just far enough from the main street to kill the traffic and pub noise, but close enough to it, and the beach, and the marina, that you don't need your car at all. Stayed 12 nights, both of us slept like logs, bed was superb, air conditioning (2 x units) very quiet, and the linen and towels were changed mid stay.
