“Amazing hotel and staff!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2014

After 2 months travelling around Australia and New Zealand never staying more than 2 nights in one place we arrived at the Peninsula Hotel for a week. What a welcome! Cold drinks, towels and a very informative chat. No problem about providing food although kitchens were closing. The suite was incredible, the view fantastic. Everything had been thought of and provided. The staff were the best part of the hotel. Very friendly and doing their jobs extremely well.
Loved the cocktails and the excellent food in the restaurant.
Great position for 4 mile beach and near the main street.
Small enough to provide a personal service and make the guests feel well looked after. So pleased we chose this hotel to finish our trip.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are special

This hotel is located ideally to look over the beach and also at the end of the Main Street making it very easy to walk everywhere we required. The hotel itself is nice and very clean but nothing too fancy or flash. Josh behind the front desk made our stay more pleasurable with his bubbly nature and helpful tips. He done an excellent job at organising and booking our tour trips and dinner reservations. He brought a smile to our face each time we saw him and seemed to do the same to other guests of the hotel. The hotel restaurant was very good for lunch however for dinner it was a different story, and we couldn't actually finish our entree or main which was very disappointing!

This is our 5th stay at the Peninsula Boutique Hotel, Port Douglas but our 1st cyclone. Sheryn, Phil and the team were so supportive, answering all our questions with patience, experience and knowledge. We felt safe every moment. When it wasn't possible to get out, and the wind was howling and the rain was pelting they provided their usual excellent service and catered for everyone's needs.
Thank you everyone at the Peninsula.

We have been to Port Douglas many times, and stayed in a variety of places. This was our first stay at The Peninsula. The hotel itself is extremely well located for everything you are likely to want to do in PD - no car required. Walk to all the restaurants and marina and the beach is 30m away. Perfect for families, couples and anyone wanting to have a break and take in everything that PD has to offer at a very reasonable price. Plenty of places will charge more - and you won't be able to sit on your balcony and take in the beach view. Only holiday rental properties perched high on the hill (and double the cost) will enjoy better outlooks. The staff were great, and always helpful. The place was well run and kept very clean. The beach view apartments are the only option to consider at The Peninsula (to take advantage of the location) and are a good size too. The main reason for staying here is the view/location. There are only around 4 accommodation places within PD that give you this, and are just a stone's throw from Macrossan Street. Don't bother with the pool view or other room types, you may as well stay someplace else. Having said that - the pool area is great, and it is heated. There is a spa too, though this is looking a little tired.
Buffet breakfast is included each morning in the room rate, with a reasonable spread of hot and cold food choices, but after 4 days with little variation, we were kinda over it, and went out for something else. The hotel has a restaurant on site - High Tide - which we ate at on our first night, having spent the day travelling. It was their "famous curry night". This we found quite disappointing, having come from Melbourne where we are very spoiled with quality Indian restaurants in every suburb. The food was tasty and perfect for a quick bite and early night, but nothing to get excited about. We had eaten at High Tide on a previous trip and been quite impressed, though we had more 'pub style' meals on that occasion, like fish and chips and chicken parmagiana. We couldn't fault their service and friendliness. With so many other good food choices available in town, we didn't eat there again but were certainly tempted by the sound of their seafood night.
The Peninsula offers all the usual tours and are happy to book these for you. We only ventured out on the river cruise this time - as we have previously done pretty much all the other stuff. It was more about R&R for us this trip, and we certainly got that lazing by the pool and walking along the beach each day. All the usual facilities are there, including beach/pool towels, books, DVDs etc.
A lovely hotel, with a very friendly feel and possibly the best located in the entire PD town.
Will definitely stay there again.
The following are our best picks - all extremely good food and service (based on dinner experience) :
1. 2Fish
2. Watergate
3. Bel Cibo
4. On The Inlet
If staying in PD for 7+ nights, there are some "must do" things :
1. Outer reef trip - or Low Isles trip
2. Habitat Sanctuary
3. Hartley's Crocodile Farm (especially good if you have kids)
4. Walk along the beach as often as possible!
5. Skyrail & Kuranda Train (closer to Cairns, but tours leave from PD)
6. Flames of the Forrest (pricey but a great cultural experience for overseas people)

Room Tip: If you are going to stay here, you have to choose a room with a beach view... or you might as well...

This was our first trip to Port Douglas and we were recommended to stay at the Peninsula Hotel. It didn't disappoint. Very friendly staff, lovely spacious apartment, really relaxing pool and great food in the restaurant. It is in a great position next to the beach and a short walk to the shops and bars. We had great wifi connection and the use of laundry. They even picked us up from Cairns airport and took us back. No
negatives at all. It's a great place to stay !

We spent a few days here in March and were very impressed with the warm, friendly welcome. The hotel is very well placed and is yards from 4 mile beach, which if you are into swaying palms, a warm gentle sea and miles of golden sands will knock your socks off.
The restaurant provides an interesting and varied menu, the rooms are spacious, very clean and with great views. The pool is very good too! But it is the people who make hotels like this and they have it absolutely right, with nothing being too much trouble and very helpful with tours and local sights. Very enjoyable!
