“Great Location, tired and old room”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

I stayed here in September with my family. The resort is in a very central location, you can walk to everything. Unfortunatetly our room was a huge dissapointment. It was a 2 bedroom apartment on the ground floor. The bedrooms had no windows and the aircon is in the entrance and blows into a wall. As a result of this the bedrooms do not receive any cool air. Decor is very tired and dated. Yet clean. Our patio looked straight onto concrete which was the base of a tennis court. It felt like a prison exercise yard. There was a good sized fridge but no BBQ facility in the whole resort. The pool area was pleasant yet dated again. We had family staying here as well on the 3rd floor and their room was definately more modern with sufficient airconditionaing. The staff at the front office were pleasant and very helpful. I would possibly stay here again but definately not in that room.

Room Tip: there are only two 2 bedroom villas. Make sure you do not have the one on the ground floor looking o...

We booked via Expedia. When we arrived we were told there were no rooms avaliable for us. About ten minutes later another person arrived to be told the same. Not a great start!

The chap on reception was fairly helpful and found a room for both of us.

The corridors leading to the rooms are narrow and dark. There was little natural light in our room which looked like it has seen better days. It wasn't terrible just a bit tired looking. The oven was filthy and produced smoke when turned on (due to cooked on food); worrying when there is a fine for setting the fire alarm off!

The room was spacious and had been cleaned (apart from the oven!)

The location is excellent. It's just opposite the pier, a small stretch of beach and the shops are seconds away.

So overall the place was ok but certainly not worth the prices asked.

The new refurbished rooms are amazing. The rooms are large. Big bath awesome views. The staff are friendly and happy to help. We are already planning our next trip and would not stay anywhere else. There is a kitchenette and a large balcony.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a refurbished room with water views.

I am so glad we picked this hotel out of all the choices we had for Port Douglas as it was ideally situated at the end of Macrossan Street (with all its restaurants and shops) and is right across the road from the most wonderful view (sunsets were glorious!) over to Cape Trib with boats coming and going etc. I would recommend a room on the pool side as you are then away from the main street noise (if there is any). We had a ground floor room with little pools outside with trickling water and stepping stones which meant you could use that as an entrance and exit. Only problem with this is that if others do the same, it is not very private! although you can draw the shutters across but this destroys the view. The 1st floor rooms overlooking the pool had balconies which would probably be nice too. Kitchenette was outside the main room on a patio as was the dining table and chairs. It was useful to have a washing machine on site and the Staff were very helpful. It is more like staying in a rented apartment as you get an initial welcome pack of items (tea/coffee/soap etc) and then you are expected to provide your own. This goes for toilet rolls too. Towels are not changed unless you stay over a week but you can pay for clean ones. We didn't find this a problem as long as you know what to expect. We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms adjacent to pool area will be quieter as they are away from main street. Ground floor rooms a...

On the corner of MacRossan & Wharf Sts is probably the best location in PD. Although I would NOT want to be in apartment facing onto MacRossan ST because of the bands at the pub. We booked a studio apartment & we were generally happy with it. However, maintenance & cleaning around the resort is noticably lacking with the resort showing signs of being tired. Cleaning of the rooms is also poor - the shower recess in our room had not been scrubbed for some time with the grout black with mould in places. Also if you look under beds there is thick dust. We stayed here 20+ years ago & note the management is allowing the place to deteriorate (sadly). If you can get the standby rate of $89 out of school holidays, I think it is good value but needs some TLC from management.

Room Tip: Stay away from rooms overlooking MacRossan St because of late night band noise from the pub.
