Its all about expectations. The Port O Call is a backpackers and with that in mind its okay. Don't expect the Ritz.
We had a spacious double room, en-suite with air-con (at night) and a tv. The lodge facilities are fine - pool, tv room, bar/restaurant and laundry. They've clearly had some problems with security - there are signs everywhere about locking doors. The insect screen on our sliding window-door had a hand-sized hole in it next to the lock!
That said, though, we had absolutely no problems and did not hear of any. Our 2 nights here were perfectly enjoyable. I just wouldn't recomment it to anyone wanting to spend most of the day there. If you need a good value bed, its okay.
Small niggle. The website says it is "5 minutes to everywhere". Its 5 minutes to nowhere! We walk quite quickly and its a good 15 minutes to the main drag in Port Douglas and the same to the marina for boats out to the Reef.
