As part of our retiral Asian/Australian tour, organised by "Austravel" in the UK, this accommodation was by far the worst we encountered. We "signed in" for our 6 night stay" and firstly were told that there would be a deposit deducted from our credit card to cover the likelihood of any damages etc. during our stay. This was a bit of a surprise as none of the other 5 hotels/resorts required this. We felt this was an insult. There was no offer of assistance with our suitcases (my wife has limited mobility) and again other hotels/resorts offered porterage without having to be asked! Room 1204, which is immediately across from reception, was of a standard size and because the window and balcony were situated on a south westerly aspect ( shade in the southern hemisphere), with wooden canopy it was so dark that the room light had to be put on in order to read anything including the information sheet. We felt like we were in the hotel broom cupboard! There was an adjoining but locked door to the next room/apartment which presumably served as an overflow bedroom for them. There were stains on the carpet and the decor looked "tired". There were ants on the bedside table. I immediately went back to reception and asked for another room ( and was willing to pay the extra cost regardless of size/upgrade). I was told that there were no other rooms available but room 2105 would become available the next day at 10.00am ( for extra cost). We immediately went to see where this room was located ( lift from Macrossan Street side) but the smell in the corridor outside the room was offputing so we decided, to try and put up with room 1204. We had little choice as we had arrived by plane and had no car in order to find another hotel. There were no cooking facilities only a kettle, which was OK with us, but again only a couple of sachets of coffee and tea and no milk for a six night stay is a bit mean, to say the least! The final letdown was the "Room Servicing" policy. We were spending 6 nights, had to put our own rubbish out in the car park bins. had only one day's provision of shampoo etc. Had we requested "Mantra Refresh Service" would have had to pay 43 AUD for the privilege! After six days, the small bins, would have been "ripe" if not unhygienic in the Tropics. Had I not taken them and emptied them myself this would have constituted a health hazard and have encouraged more ants to visit!
The staff were the positive side as they were friendly, helpful and informative. The poolside was good, clean well maintained and a pleasant place to sit (and read). The other poolside accommodation looked suited to purpose but the "cupboard/room" to which we were allocated was a letdown. This resort should review its policy on Deposits, Rubbish Disposal, Non Existent Room Servicing and turn room 1204 into a Cleaners' Cupboard!

Room Tip: Do not accept room 1204. Ask for poolside accommodation as it's brighter/sunnier. Rooms not s...

Hi Tom B.

Thank you for your feedback.

It is disappointing that we were not able to find an available one bed room unit for you as this was what you required , not a hotel room.
All of our hotel rooms do not have a kitchenette and it appears that you had booked the incorrect room type for your six night stay.
We did offer a discounted upgrade to a one bedroom deluxe unit .
Porterage is not advertised as included however we are always more than happy to assist where possible.
No deposit was deducted from your credit card , a pre authorisation simply holds the amount as a security for all guests , but we would have been happy to not do this if you found it to bea a problem.
Room servicing is also advertised as an extra cost if guests do require this.

Regards , Peter

After a lot of checking reviews, booked Mantra Heritage Port Douglas and after our stay can say were not disappointed. Rooms clean and spacious with all expected facilities; staff friendly and helpful; location fantastic - easy walk to main areas of Port. Would return again.

Room Tip: A 2 bed room is great if taking a teenager - they'll have their own room access !

We stayed for 3 nights in a deluxe room with a swim off deck - a nice touch.
The room was spacious, well appointed and comfortable - we slept very well. It had a full kitchen as well...the pool area can get noisy, especially over school holidays when the hotel is busy...if it's a problem, you can read inside until the levels drop. The pool is large and you can even manage laps.
The location is A+ - walking distance to everything. It annoyed me there was no complimentary internet service - you had to pay - in your room or in the area near reception. I found reasonably priced access close by, so it wasn't a major issue.
Overall, a nice place to stay...and they have a lift for those who can't manage stairs, many/most of the apt buildings in Port are walk-up...so a good choice for those with babies, prams, small kids, the disabled or elderly.

Hi evansbrown.

I am glad that you enjoyed your stay with us here at Mantra Heritage.

Great that the deluxe room suited you , with easy access to our heated pool.

Our central location is certainly attractive and , following the recent resort painting and new pool deck area , guests are finding the resort to be in great condition as well.

Resort is nicely located. Accommodation is so-so. Staff less than inspiring - didn't even get a "did you enjoy your stay", or "goodbye".

A word of warning on room descriptions. A two-bedroom apartment is not as you'd expect - it's two separate rooms (one apartment/one hotel) that are accessed by one communal door!

We were travelling with our 11-mth old and paid for a two-bedroom apartment so that we could put the little one down for the night, still be within earshot and have some privacy. Neither my partner or I felt happy or safe about putting our little man next door.

As a solution the hotel offered ... wait for it ... two door stops (!) so that we could keep our door open and that of the second hotel room. They couldn't quite grasp the fact that this wasn't exactly ideal.

I have stayed in many hundreds of hotels in my life and, to me, a two bedroom apartment means one apartment with two bedrooms WITHIN it.

Seemingly, Mantra Heritage Port Douglas are exercising the right to sell-off a two bedroom apartment as two single apartments when they need to.

Hi hollywoodau.

I am sorry to hear that the two bedroom dual key unit you were allocated did not suit you.
This is a common two bedroom set up and yes , it does also allow the units to be let seperately or as one.
We also have two bedroom non dual key units that we would have been happy to book for you if we had one available.
Most guests find that a door stop is adequate to use the unit while allowing easy access to the second room.
Please ensure you contact me directly for a return stay and i will be happy to allocate a more suitable unit for you.

Spent a week in port Douglas at the Mantra heritage in a 1BR apartment. The apartment had pretty much everything included and was top quality.

A couple of minor issues - because it is spread over multiple levels with entry from two separate streets, even the elevators are not enough to make it suitable for mobility impaired/wheelchair bound guests. Two many little sets of steps.

Also only the tall and nimble can comfortably get in and out of the bath/shower.

But the Heritage is ideally located in downtown Port Douglas.

Would I stay there again? Probably not.

Room Tip: Rooms entered from Macrossan Street are more convenient to everything.

I was looking for a place to wind down for a week in Port Douglas and selected the Mantra Heritage based on a.) having checked out the pool when walking past on a previous visit, it looked amazing; and b.) it is located right in the heart of Macrossan St, so is accessible to everything.

Check in on Sunday was a breeze, straight up to the room which looked out over the amazing pool from the 2nd floor at the Macrossan St end, and was well equipped with king bed, lounge, small kitchenette, laundry and a spa bath on the balcony! Unfortunately I found out at 7.00am the next morning they were constructing a new building next door! A quick call into reception and they very accommodatingly said I could get an upgraded room if I could wait another night. Sounded reasonable. True to their word I moved the following morning into a beautiful room on the ground floor with a swim in / swim out terrace. I'd lost the spa (which in my opinion wasn't very good with only 5 jets for an enormous spa) and gained an entire pool! I was one very happy camper. I must say the pool was terrific, it looks a place that kids would love, and the swim in / out room was awesome.

The premise is fantastically positioned in the heart of the town with easy access to all facilities and plenty of (free) parking under the building. I used to have a giggle at the people waiting for the bus in the rain to take them back to their "luxury" properties out on 4 Mile Beach.

The rooms are very quiet (well ok the 2nd one more than the 1st, but it was also very quiet at night). There was one night I slept through 330mm of rain without hearing a peep!

A very nice place with good facilities in the middle of it all in beautiful Tropical North Queensland.

Room Tip: - Try and spring for one of the swim in / swim out rooms. They are great - Ask for a room away from...

Great to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and found the central location was ideal for you.

We always try to accomadate all guest needs so i am glad that our staff were able to shift you into a more suitable room for you.

Our neighboring building is due for completion in a few weeks so it will be nice to have a new Tourist Information Centre and take away shops right next door.

We look forward to welcoming you back again , please let us know so we can book you into the highly sound after deluxe units for direct pool access.
