My fiance and I booked a two bedroom apartment for a week in the Mantra Portsea. We took our family from the UK up to Port Douglas to visit the reef. When we arrived at the hotel and entered the room, we found it to be dark and dingy and extremely unclean. We asked when booking if the rooms had a full kitchen including an oven and were told yes only to discover that there was a hob and microwave, no oven.
When we approached the staff about the state of the room, they were very apologetic and quickly found us a different room. The second room was much nicer and brighter, however it was still dirty, the staff sent a cleaner over to clean it and they did so quickly.
On the third morning, we woke to discover that there was no electricity, when asking at reception we were informed that the power would be off until 3pm due to street works. They said they found out a week ago and a note should have been put under the door that morning. We didn't receive the note and why weren't we informed of this when we checked in, the hotel admitted that they had known for a week!!
Eventually we complained to the manager who moved us to the Mantra Aqueous which was a lovely hotel and we enjoyed the rest of our stay. Mantra Portsea also refunded us one night's accommodation.
I am afraid that I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, I feel sorry for the staff that have to deal with these issues all the time, they were friendly and polite throughout the whole experience. The one good thing about the hotel was the pool which is lovely! I realise that this is not a 5 star hotel, but it shouldn't matter what price you pay for your stay, cleanliness should always be of a high standard.

This is a great location for quick trips into the main street of Port Douglas without having to use the bus..about 10mins along the most amazing beach. The staff were excellent, very helpful and friendly. I would recommend the hotel for families as they have an amazing lagoon pool that is easy to access, fun and safe.

We booked an online special - 3 nights for the cost of 2 - and checked out after the 2nd night when offered an alternative place to stay. The room we stayed in was pokey, had a dripping tap and no mosquito nets on the windows. The reception staff were delightful but the staff in the breakfast room really didn't want to be there and tables were slow to be cleared. I filled out a comments card but received no feedback.

It looks so beautiful from the outside and perhaps the larger rooms are better but, for us, it was such a disappointment. Would definately find somewhere else the next tie we go to PD.

We stayed four nights, good location, short 10 minute walk to town and 5 minute walk to the beach. Fun pool and swim up bar, I enjoyed the alligator in the pool, see picture below. Restful and enjoyable.

We stayed here in 2006 for our honeymoon and loved it so decided we had to go back. We had a double room which was massive! It had a bedroom area, lounge, kitchen, bathroom with spa bath, and a balcony. All were clean and well maintained.
The hotel has several pools including the main one in the centre of the hotel. The main pool got quite busy as it was holiday time but the other pools stayed quiet if you fancied a swim. Four mile beach is a couple of minutes walk from the hotel, the centre of Port Douglas was about 15 mins walk away.
The staff were very helpful and you could book tours with them or just get a recommendation of where to eat.
It is well worth getting breakfast it is gorgeous!
