The rooms were clean and spacious. The pool area was great and never crowded. Location wonderful - 5 minute walk to spectacular 4 mile beach and can walk into town easily or get bus outside entrance. staff friendly. Would go back in a heart beat. I loved the accommodation and fell in love with the place. I want to go back now!!!!!! I was there with my grown kids and grandson for my eldest son's wedding - perfect.

Our group of 8 recently stayed at the Mantra Portsea and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Having previously read the reports written by others I was a bit apprehensive too, however we didn't really experience any problems. The Pool area was beautiful, swim up bar a hazard to the wallet, but very handy. The towel charge was a bit disappointing, but not really a major problem. The 2 things that were a bit off putting were the lack of cleanliness in the rooms and balconys and the fact that we had requested 2 rooms close to each other when we booked several months ago, but ended up with 2 rooms miles away from each other. Breakfast was great, especially 2 free ones per day. This said, we would definately recommend the Portsea and would love to return someday.

After seeing some of the reviews prior to our stay I was wondering whether we had made a good choice. I can categorically say that the 10 nights my wife and 3 boys had at the Portsea were fantastic. There was none of the musty smell that some reviewers mentioned, the 2 bed apartment was a good size, both bedrooms had ensuite facilities. The location was great for the beach and only a 10min walk from the town. They do charge for extra towels, but with a bit of ingeniuty you can get round this. The pool area and pool bar were excellent and the staff friendly. Everybody we spoke to were happy with the Portsea and I would recommend the resort.

We stayed here during a month long tour of Australia and can safely say that the rooms here were the most dissapointing we had stayed in. The Hotel is in a good location for the beach, and a reasonable walking distance from the resort centre of Port Douglas. However the rooms were small and smelt damp, which I suspect came from the air conditioning units! Breakfast was ok and the other facilities, ie pool, laundry and car parking were good. We would love to visit Port Douglas again, but I don't think we'll stay here again. Sorry.

Wonderful pool area and great facilities but very over-rated rooms.
The hotel is rated as about a 4 - 5 star hotel and it is certainly not of that standard. The rooms are fitted with budget broken or dirty fittings and furniture. We stayed for 7 days and were allowed one towel each. If we wanted another towel we were expected to pay $2.00 for. There was no dishwashing liquid, no dishcloth and we were given a single roll of toilet paper. The apartment was not serviced in the time we stayed there, despite there being no discount for an extended stay. The room was billed as a luxury apartment with full kitchen facilities. The kitchen consisted of a half metre bench, a hotplate, a very old and burnt frying pan and the sum total of about three broken utensils. Nothing luxurious about the rooms. They were very much three star quality. Plastic bath, plastic fittings and cheap old unattractive cane furniture, the cushions for which hadn't been washed since they were purchased by the look of them. A 15 year old TV with no DVD player or stereo or anything you'd reasonably expect from a "luxury" hotel..
Whilst staying there I heard at least 4 people complaining to the reasonably disinterested staff about their rooms.
On the plus side there about 5 different swimming pools and they are just wonderful. Our three year old loved swimming all day every day. The pools were great as there were deep parts and paddling areas for the little kids, including a waterfall and a little slide and rocks to play on. Loved the pool, the rest I'd suggest is very over-rated. Port Douglas is a gorgeous holiday spot and we had a marvellous holiday.
