“4 Day Stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012

This is a really good place to stay. The rooms have all been refurbished and are double the size that they used to be, and so they are roomy and everything in the room is brand spanking new. Not a mark on anything. So that was nice! The pool is lovely and the staff are very good. We enjoyed the stay. Price was excellent !!

Stayed for 4 nights in Dec 2012. Got a free upgrade from a hotel room to a newly refurbished 1 bedroom apartment. The quality of the apartment was first rate, spacious and very well equipped. Great swimming pool, alfresco meals and drinks at reasonable prices. Very friendly staff. Would stay again.

Room Tip: Get a newly refurbished apartment

We are Worldmark members and have just recently had a 6 night stay at their Ramada property in Port Douglas. We were very happy with our 1 b'room apartment. We were on the top floor, 3rd floor, with views across the tree tops. There is a lift. The 1 b'room unit only has a shower in the bathroom, 2 b'room units have a bath as well. The property is still undergoing refurbishment but that created no problems for us however it does restrict the number of car parking spaces available as they have containers for the refurbishment taking up some of these spaces. We had read reviews saying the pool was littered with leaves- yes there are some leaves that get into the pool - they come from the trees surrounding the restaurant/pool area but by no means was the pool dirty or were the leaves bothersome. We had read a review saying the pool temp was cold- we didn't find that either obviously depends on what time of year you are there. The trees provide some protection from the sun but if sunbaking is what you want to do you can still do this. We were informed the pool will be heated next year as part of their refurbishment. The only initial disappointment I had was there is no balcony off the unit. When I raised this with staff I was told when the property was built, it is a well established property, it was built to a certain cyclone rating. I soon adapted to not having a balcony and this would not prevent me from returning. The onsite restaurant provided good value meals. As we had a fully well equipped kitchen in our unit we only used the restaurant 4 times during our stay, 2 lunches and 2 evening meals. The property is just a few minutes drive out of the main Port Douglas township but shuttle buses frequently call into the resort to transport guests into town. We didn't use these shuttles as we had a rental car. Another review we had read said the property was a long walk to the beach. The property is not on the beachfront but it is just a few minutes pleasant walk to the beach via a lovely park, with excellent play equipment for children, on the way. There are so many things to do in Port Douglas. The township provides a leisurely stroll for a day for those who enjoy shopping. There are shops to cater for all needs from high fashion to Target and many in between, and many restaurants and cafes.. There is a large Coles supermarket in the town centre. We did a Quicksilver Agincourt Reef excursion day, which we have also reviewed, and highly recommend this to people of all ages and ability levels.
We had beautiful weather during our stay- light showers of rain through the night and lovely fine days. We will probably head back either at the same time of year or a month or so earlier in the future.

Room Tip: If you want to be able to have a space outside your room select a ground floor unit however you will...

WOW! What a great place to stay! We fell in love the minute we drove up and saw the big open, airy reception area. Open, meaning no walls. It gave the place this really neat tropical feel and it didn’t stop there…..as you make your way to your room you go over little bridges and follow paths that go past lily ponds, all kinds of beautiful trees, plants and flowers. From the outside, the buildings that the hotel rooms are in look like a typical boring hotel but when you open the door you are blown away. The hotel rooms are more like huge apartments that are brand new with stainless steel appliances and very tastefully decorated with cute modern furniture. As it turned out, some people actually live there full time, others are time share owners and then some use it as a hotel like we did.

The pool area continues that tropical feel with a free form pebble tec pool which was long and curvy making it seem more like a river with a big waterfall (and swim up bar) at one end. Huge beautiful trees with dangling vines form a canopy over the pool area but breaks in the trees allow for the sun to get through if you want to sun tan. The pool was surrounded by a multi level wooden deck with some of the most beautiful pool furniture I’ve ever seen at a hotel. There was no shortage of gorgeous rattan chaise lounges. The open-air restaurant and bar runs along one side of the pool and you can sit on a lower level right next to it so it feels like you’re sitting next to a little river in a rain forest. The food in the restaurant was wonderful and though drinks were expensive, there are two happy hours between 5pm and 6pm and again between 8pm and 9pm and then most but not all drinks (wine, beer, liquor) were about $5. Oh and there is free wi-fi down by the pool…bonus!

Special thanks to Mikala McDonald (spelling?) who really helped us out with some business stuff that we had to take care of whilst in Cairns. She spent extra time with us giving us advice and directions and was just extremely helpful and nice.

We truly did not want to leave. I wish we could have stayed a week instead of just two nights!

We have stayed at the Ramada twice before in previous years. Since then it has had major room renovations with some wings still in progress. We stayed in an apartment with separate dining/lounge complete with dishwasher & cooking facilities, spacious bedroom with ensuite & an extra toilet. The rooms were very clean. I'm not sure if the night menu at the restaurant changes daily but it did seem different on 2 separate occasions & the food was fantastic! I would go back just to eat there.

First I must say our reason for staying at the Ramada was we had a deal through Wyndham Holidays for really cheap accommodation at one of their resorts in exchange for attendance (1.5hours) to one of their investment presentation seminars (I recommend this painless alternative for cheap accommodation for anyone interested).

The setting of this resort is magical with the central courtyard area fill with trees, plants and waterways with curved natural style paths leading to the rooms giving a sense of connection with the rain forest within the wider Far North Queensland region. The resort even has a resident parrot, free to go as it pleases, that resides in the reception area.

Rooms were very clean and modern and the pool, including swim up bar facility was very well used. The Al Fresco dinning restaurant of the Ramada was great too, with lovely, good sized meals.

The resort is only a quick 5 minute walk to the closest beach (4 mile beach I think).

The service was high with friendly, professional staff able to help us with bookings for extra activities and local knowledge of the area. The free internet availability was also a added bonus.

The only negative, which was temporary, was the construction going on in one of the accommodation blocks. Although we could not hear the noise from our room, the construction signs and workers in fluorescent clothing abated the relaxing atmosphere at times.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Ramada Resort, Port Douglas and would recommend it for anyone looking for accommodation in the Port Douglas region.

Did not stay at the Ramada hotel but we did eat at the tree tops restaurant on the recommendation of the neighbouring resort oaks lagoons. They gave us a coles shop a docket entitling us to buy one get one free. I thought good start. We got seated for lunch immediately it wasn't busy at all. Got our menus and ordered the wagyu beef burger and a medium rare steak chips salad. Both dishes were well below average. The burger came out soggy and the bun was a cheap Coles brand quality. The worst bit of the meal was the steak as a good medium rare should be this steak was complete opposite dry, tough, tasteless. I would say the best bit of our meals would be the chips. I have read some reviews and heard this place does good foodbut we did not see it.
