“Value for Money”
Reviewed January 17, 2012

We were very happy with our stay at Ramada, considering the cost of our Bed & B'fast was $156 per night. Sure the rooms are a little tired and not all facilities are open, but gee for $156 per night it was great. The restaurant food was excellent, so we ate there most nights. Loved the pool, used the front lounge although we had to take our drinks there ourselves. We had one night where we were disturbed by noise, but that could happen anywhere.

We were pleased with this hotel, hotel rooms are large we had the couch folded out for our 2 year old and had a porta cot up for the baby and still had room for the stroller, luggage etc. Pool area is fantastic, pool is not heated so it was a great temp while we were there but not sure if this would make it a bit cold some times of the year?
We were in B block which was right next to the restaurant /near pool and it wasnt loud. It is a short walk to 4 mile beach and a park but not the end with the swimming net. Hotel would not be walking distance to town but has plenty of parking.
A couple of small issues in the room but I know they are starting renovating all the rooms so these will likely be sorted. Only gripe with service is that they do not clean rooms on Sundays unless you request it which we did one night as our toddler had thrown up on the bed which we made them aware of, we cleaned up the mess but the sheets still smelled but they just made the bed and didnt swap the sheets.

Room Tip: Blocks B and D are closest to the pool, B is also close to the carparks.

With previous reviews and the name change in mind we were managing our own expectations before arriving but everything went well. Our request to management for a high level room looked to be missing out until the assistant said with surprise, "oh you have been allocated 307, thats unusual" We had arranged through the hotel for the transfer from Cairns airport, perhaps that helped.
It was a nice room, nothing too special but with a nice view of the garden/forest area. We used the bar and restaurant on a couple of occasions when not going into PD, pretty much standard price and choice for the area. The spa and lobby bar are not in operation and one of the accommodation blocks is also closed for renovation. As others have mentioned there are a mix of owners, timeshare type users and hotel rooms so it is a non standard set up. Not the most service conscious hotel either but it did fit the bill for us and we got a decent positioned room. It is a little way out of town but the shuttle runs regularly.

We had trips to the Barrier reef (Quiksilver) and Rainforest (Down under eco tours) both of which were excellent.

Room Tip: Block C, high floor overlooking pool/garden

We arrived here all excited, We were on Honeymoon!! We walked into the place to be greeted with "Oh congrates on your honeymoon, now we have had to down grade you!! ", When we asked why were we not informed before we came, we got told that they had "tried" to get in touch with the agent and all other questions were pretty much ignored. They saw me burst into tears but didnt do anything about it. My new husband consoled me and I went to get something out of my bag, I told the "assistant manager" that I was not happy with the arrangements and she said there was nothing she could do about it.

I told her that the hotel needs to come up with something as we are pretty dissapointed and pissed off. About half an hour later the hotel manager came down and offered us a dinner on them, her words were, anything you wanted all on us of course. We accepted and then were shown to our room.

The room was extreamly tired and outdated. The shower curtin smelt musty and old, the hotels idea of a nice room and a view was a bit misconstrewed I think, the view was of a tree outside our room and a path, if you kept the blinds open, anyone that walked past could see into your room.

On the third night we were there, there was someone running around in the room upstairs, this was at 1:30am I rang reception and asked if they could sort it out. They told me that it was a private room so there was nothing they could really do about it. Hold on, we were never told that the complex had a time share thing going on, or else we would have opted to stay somewhere else. This happened over the next few days at varrious times. I sleep with ear plugs in and I could still hear this person thumping around above us. On the 4th night I had had enough and went down to reception at 2:30am and told them that I would be putting in an offical complaint as we were completely over it. The hotel told us in short of getting the police involved there was nothing they could do. This was extreamly confussing as to why they would do that, what were the police going to do about it. They finally moved us to another cruddy room. but this was facing the resturant with all the resturant smells coming from it. So we gave up complaining as what was the point???

Oh the dinner was ok but the bottle of bubbly was a $25.00 bottle and that was what the resturant charged it out as so you could have gotten it at a supermaket for about $9.00 I guess.

I personally feel that this hotel runied our honeymoon, the experience was just disgusting. In my opinion the hotel did what felt just enough to make up for rennovations, and the tired rooms. It was extreamly dissapointing and just lacked any kind of professionalism. I would never reccomend anyone to stay at this resort.

We spent 4 nights at the Ramada Resort in Port Douglas after it came recommended to us from friends. The rooms were large and well equiped with tea and coffee facilities and a fridge. We were offered a 2 for 1 breakfast voucher when we arrived which meant an all you can eat hot buffet was $15pp. I personally would not have paid the usual $30pp price.

The pool area was lovely and we spent a lot of time relaxing and sunning ourselves. The swim up bar was a real novelty and the bar had happy hour between 5-6 and 8-9. We were disappointed when the bar shut at 10pm each night - but were told that this was due to licensing laws.

We ate lunch in the hotel one day - and thought this was a little over priced. Although the food was nice it could have been a lot better. We did not eat dinner in the hotel as there were so many places to choose from in Port Douglas.

Parking was free and there was a frequent bus service which ran until midnight into Port Douglas. This was $4 each way or $7 for a return. The hotel were helpful in recommending activities for us - and we booked a half day snorkel trip which was fantastic.

Overall a great hotel for the price - would stay here again.

This resort is amazing it is in the rainforest yet walking distance from the 4 mile beach. The swimming pool in the resort is just incredible with water cascading down the rocks into the pool. It has two shallow areas for small children and a very deep part of the pool and the water is cool unlike other pools in Port Douglas which are in the full sun all day and it has a swim up bar!. The restaurant overlooks the magnificent pool area and is completely open with fans (just gorgeous during a tropical downpour) food and beverage is very reasonably priced and good quality. All rooms have either been or in the process of being upgraded and are spacious and beautifully decorated (airconditioner is so quiet and effective) Very romantic place.

Room Tip: we had a king room was just beautiful make sure you get the breakfast buffet included in the room ra...

Spent New Year in Port Douglas at the Ramada Resort which is a lttle way out of the town centre, but the local buses come every half hour, so leave the car parked. Resort a short walk to the beach. King Room is great size, air-con is needed temp outside is between 30 to 32 degrees C very humid. Doors to rooms are heavy and slam shut loud and keep you awake. Personally I found the bed too hard the sofa was more comfortable. Lots of sun, remember to Slip Slop Slap. Resort has a Pool Bar best place to be in the heat.
