Comfortable and reasonably priced room. Five minute walk to beach. Huge pool with shady trees as the hotel's central feature. Pool-side restaurant with average buffet breakfast. On-site parking can be limited.

Room Tip: Some ground floor rooms have easy access to carpark.

My fiance and I stayed here in late August 2011 for 2 nights. Was pleasantly surprised to see that the advertised pictures matched the resort. It was very nice. When we stayed it had already been renamed to Ramada, and the resort advertised that some changes (presumably improvements?) had been made. Never stayed previously.

We were both impressed by the room and the resort as a whole - service was good, rooms were very clean, comfortable, well appointed and spacious, and the tree-lined resort gardens were very peaceful and relaxing. Considering what we paid (around AU $115 p/n) I thought it was very good value - particularly in comparison to the AU$90 backpackers down the road which we stayed in the night previous (which deceptively advertised itself as a hotel!).

The reception area is beautiful and they offer a regular shuttle bus service to the main street (Macrossan St) for a reasonable price (~$7pp return). You can walk this, but it's at least 2kms, so would presumably take at least 20 mins. The resort also has features such as a well-equipped laundry and beautiful pool with swim-up bar and waterfall. I believe there is a day spa too, although we didn't check it out.

Overall I would rate this resort 8.5/10. My only criticism was the onsite restaurant which has a nice atmosphere, but in my opinion served pretty average food for an above average price ($25-32 for mains). With a bottle of wine, a shared entree and 2 main meals I expect better for around $100, however being from Melbourne I accept that we have better restaurants than QLD, and the food certainly wasn't bad -- just not great.

Overall, a very nice stay. Assuming the price remained much the same, I would definitely consider staying here again.

Room Tip: Our room was about 15m from the pool which was nice.

My husband and I stayed at the Mercure (now Ramada) from 7th to 12th of September.

The grounds look lovely, well planted, they are cool and shaded, protected from wind and even have flowering orchids. The pool/lagoon is very pretty and the swim up bar is a nice feature. Many birds and other animals (a resident frog in the reception water feature and resident cockatoo) sound lovely and add to the tropical atmosphere.Walking to the beach only takes about five minutes and you can find coconuts dropped from the palms and husk them yourself, a real DIY treat!

We stayed in a superior room and they provided shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand wash, shaving crème, and moisturiser which is much better than the shampoo and soap only that is quite common these days, even in four star accommodation. The bed was very comfortable and the rooms were styled like beach bungalows in neutral colours. The LCD TV had good reception and all the digital channels.

The shuttle bus to the town centre of Port Douglas is run by the township of Port Douglas, and goes on the same route through about 6 resorts. Its $4 each way or $7 return, you can also purchase a day pass for $10 and 3 or 5 day passes as well. We never waited more than about ten minutes for a bus and it only takes about ten minutes to get into town depending on how many people there are at other resorts.

Like previous reviewers we found the slamming doors to be a problem. It didn’t keep us up or wake us in the middle of the night but it was very noticeable during the day when we were dropping things off in our rooms. You just have to be wary of it and make sure you hold the weight of the door so it closes gently.

We usually have a tradition of either the last breakfast or last dinner in the resort but $30 pp for buffet breakfast was just ridiculous and there was nothing on the generic overpriced dinner menu to make them stand out so we didn’t bother. We found wonderful fare in town and with so much competition the food is reasonably priced and very good quality.

The only things that really got us annoyed was related to the ownership changeover from the Mercure Treetops to the Ramada. We chose to stay at this resort for the spa (advertised on getaway as overlooking the trees and water and looking just fantastic), the look of it from the website, the reviews, the frequent flyer points and the reasonably priced rooms. Well first of all there was no spa. We booked this trip in early June and only found out about the change when it happened in late August when luckily for us we tried to make a booking at the spa. After no response from the contact email for the spa I called the resort directly and the receptionist told me they had changed (that day) to the Ramada and the spa was closed until further notice. The resort is offering a discount to a spa in town, however it has received atrocious reviews so we didn’t bother going there. We made an appointment at the Sabaya Wellness Spa instead (and it was lovely).

I sent an email to the Hotel Manager and Front Desk Manager a week and a half before our stay, indicating our disappointment and would they be offering a discount to any other spas and I did not receive a response, which we found incredibly rude. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, when we arrived we inquired at reception as to whether they had received the email and told her the nature of our concerns. The receptionist on duty said that the Front Desk Manager, Anna, was in and went to tell her about us, then the receptionist (not Anna) came back and said Anna had tolde her they were having issues with emails sent to the reservations inbox (but we sent it to the managers individual inboxes...). The receptionist to her credit did apologise and said she was sure they would get back to us as soon as they got it. Anna never came to speak with us or left any sort of note apologising for the inconvenience and to this day I have not received even an acknowledgement of my email or our concerns. The impression we have received from these managers is that we were not important enough to them and they had more important things to worry about – the absolute height of rudeness and completely unacceptable customer service. If we hadn’t tried to make a booking we never would have found out. To make such large changes to the facilities and amenities should not go without notification to patrons who have booked well in advance.

Too add further insult the ownership change now also means they are not a frequent flyer member.

We were content with the quality of the room for the price but because of the way our concerns were handled and the disappointment in our expectations we would not stay there again. There is so much available in Port Douglas there’s no reason to settle for that. Also future customers should be aware that over half the rooms will be converted to self contained apartments for the timeshare members of the Wyndham group. I shudder to think what else will be changed!

Room Tip: There are four sections A-D and we stayed in D, the souther side(C-D) on the third floor. It overloo...

Stayed here from Tuesday 6th September was meant to be there for a week but changed hotels on Friday. Was woken all three days by people slamming doors and partying until 4am. Complained to reception and they said there was a wedding party going on all weekend and basically told us put up with it. I would advise people to stay here at there own peril this is the worst hotel we have ever stopped in and being well travelled we have stopped in a fair few.

We treated ourselves to 2 nights here at the start of a 8 week backpacking trip through oz and NZ. It was nice. i cant remember what we paid and we spend the first day sleeping of the jet lag but the location was good. Port Douglas is a nice spot. We didn't use the pool but it did look quite nice. i wouldn't say this was 5* luxury but a fairly good 4*. Remember walking back through a private estate by accident. It was an affluent area.

Our stay at Treetops Port Douglas fell well short of our expectations for everal reasons.

1. The quality of the accommodation was more 2 star than 4 or 5 star. I won't provide a list of the problems but it was obvious from the outset that the rooms had not been maintained to a high standard for some time. The reason for this became obvious during our stay and I will cover below.

2. The quality of the room servicing was average at best. Again I won't provide the many examples but it was well below what we have experienced over many years of staying in hotels and resorts.

3. The resort changed ownership during the first half of our stay and we no longer received the benefits of Accor membership. The fact that neither the old nor new owners would honour the terms of our booking was annoying, as was the lack of formal advice that this would be the case either before or during our stay.

We wouldn't recommend this resort to anyone based on our experience nor are we inclined to want to stay at any Accor or Wyndham Group hotels/resorts in the future. It was obvious that neither organisation values us as customers.

They changed the name of the hotel on the day we arrived to the ramada so had a problem finding the place, the staff were helpful and the pool in the middle of the complex is a good size, the doors to the rooms slam shut on their own so you do get woken up in the morning if someone checks out. there is free internet in the reception. It is a busy hotel but not to bad on the whole, the beach is a 5 minute walk away .It is about 5 minutes from the harbour andf there are free courtesy buses so no problem there.

Room Tip: alaways ask for a room on the 3rd floor overlooking the pool
