I recently spent a week in the Port and can say without a doubt the best meal had on the trip was at Sassi. If dining I recommend the spanner crab fettuccini which was delicious and the medium rare steak was melt in your mouth, cut it with a butter knife material. There was a brand new staff member looking after us who needed a bit of training up on but it only added to the night really. Good choice of wines available as well.

Great spot for lunch - good breeze at the outside tables. Out waiter was friendly and helpful. The meals were ordinary. The salad was not what was ordered, but was eaten without complaint. It was ok. The barramundi dish, served as a soup with orzo rice, mussels, octopus and other stuff, was tasteless. Large globules of oil floated on the soup. Not recommended.

We had dinner here and chose the place solely as we has a couple of Best restaurants gift cards to use and Sassi is one of the few places in Port Douglas that you can use them. We were pleased to have been able to eat here though and really enjoyed the food.

We had the grilled octopus and prawn, paw paw & avocado salad as entrees. The octopus was good but glad we were sharing as couldn't have eaten much more of it. The prawn salad was amazing! Great combination of ingredients and so so refreshing!

For mains we had the goat dish, and the squid ink fettuccine with prawns. Both were amazing dishes.

Our waitress was lovely and is very good at her job. Well done to all the wait staff they were very friendly in true port douglas style.

Only let down was the older lady who appeared to be "boss". Very icey when processing our payment and was looking down on her staff who we thought were all wonderful.

After careful consideration I have chosen to give Sassi 4 'very good' as I'm basing that mostly on the food, which in our experiences dining there 4 times in the past two weeks, has been very very good. The food was very fresh and each dish was cooked beautifully and seasoned absolutely perfectly. Every dish was a delight to eat and was in fact, among some of the best food we ate in our two weeks in Port. We would have like to have dined there more often.
The only downside for us, and it was a big downside and put us off eating there more regularly, was the owners formidable presence looming, ensuring the 'restaurant policies' are adhered to.
One Friday lunchtime we were seated at a lovely spot outside with a very nice view out to the park and beyond to the water and were very happily awaiting a good lunch as we had already eaten there a couple of times and really enjoyed each dish. We placed our order, mainly off the lunch menu given but also requested a pizza as we had seen a menu for pizza outside the main entrance. Apparently it was not possible as there is a restaurant policy that pizza is not to be eaten outside, only inside at the bar. So we were requested to move inside to the dismal bar, on this glorious day where we were enjoying the sunshine, just so we could have a pizza as well as the main meals we were ordering. We were baffled as no explanation was offered other than 'restaurant policy' and we couldn't for the life of us, work out what the possible reason might be. It surely couldn't be that they were saving the nicer outdoor seating for non-pizza eaters could it? As we were the only customers dining during the 1.45hours we were there, that just wouldn't make sense, surely? Anyway, after enquiring further and the severe owner reiterating under no circumstances would having a pizza alongside our mains be entertained, we resigned ourselves to no pizza this day, at least not at Sassi. We felt badly for the poor young staff having to deliver 'the rules' which is understandably very embarrassing for them in such a ridiculous situation. We did however have an enjoyable three courses each but it did put us off eating there regularly after that, which was a shame as the food was great. And I do believe that this restaurant would have a far higher rating on TA if it was based on food alone as when the poor and terrible reviews are read, it speaks of poor customer service being the letdown, so perhaps a good learning opportunity here. After eating around in Port I do believe it deserves to be higher up the ranks based solely on food as the kitchen know what they are doing and it is evident they care, you can taste it.

First time here, our waiter was fantastic, food sensational. Pricey but worth every cent we paid. My Fettucini was the best I have ever tried. We walked in early but suggest you book. Seating outside was perfect. Loved it
