During our stay in Port Douglas before Christmas to visit my niece, my husband and I wanted to experience fine dining. We tried several restaurants, and looked forward to delectable dishes prepared with fresh ingredients - the best which Port Douglas had to offer. This was the high expectations we had of a town which abounds with fresh seafood, vegetables and fruits, but generally, we were disappointed. Luckily, my niece and her friend, who live and work in Port Douglas invited us to dine at the Il Pescatore, seafood restaurant of the Sheraton Mirage.
This proved to be the highlight of our stay in Port Douglas. The Il Pescatore is conveniently located near the lagoon and since it was such a beautiful and warm evening, we chose to sit in the terrace, where we had a perfect view of the lagoon and surroundings. While we were deciding what to order from the extensive menu, we were served some tasters consisting of small delicate dishes designed to titillate and entice the taste buds. When we took the first bite, we knew then that it was going to be a fine dining experience. We found out that the Sheraton Mirage prides itself in having in its employ several chefs, who can live up to the high level of excellence of colleagues in Australia and abroad.
The extensive menu was interesting, experimental and is characterized by the successful fusion of different cuisine influences. The dishes, which we were served during the meal, were perfectly prepared from fresh ingredients and the composition and presentation of each dish bear witness to the excellence of the chefs in the Il Pescatore kitchen.
The service was competent, discrete and friendly which all in all made the evening an unforgettable experience.
