“Fine dining and very reasonable too”

The service was excellent. The food was excellent. Unusual and tasty food with lots of australian ingredients. We saved this place until our last night but now wish we had gone more than once. A dining experience like this one costs so much more in the Uk. Very impressed as was great value for money.

“Outstanding modern Australian”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

My third meal at Ochre and the menu continues to surprise. My partner and I were lucky to get a table at short notice a couple of Saturday nights ago. The restaurant was busy, but we never felt it. The service was pleasant and attentive and the food was well worth the slightly longer wait. For Entree we shared Twice cooked pork belly with seared scallops and Gulf bugs with banana prawn mousseline. These were generous and delicious with high attention to detail. For our main we had Crab ravioli and Roasted duck breast. The duck breast was cooked to perfection with each and every element on the plate complementing each other. The crab ravioli was simply luxurious. For desert we shared the chocolate ****, which was a combination of 4 separate chocolate desserts that proved to be an enjoyable and decadent end to what can only be described as a near perfect meal.

There are many restaurants in Cairns but very few come close to putting food of this standard on the plate.

“Very Poor service food was ok”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

We attended this restaurant as part of a group - which was pre booked and on a set menu. Needless to say it was obvious that the 1 1/2 hour wait for the entrée meant they couldn't cope. Main was even slower, and then they got meals wrong which is pretty poor given we only had 3 choices. The food was ok but the service really was poor.

“original & innovative each mouthful is a delight”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

The chef showcases local North QLD produce in an exciting and tasty way. A 3 course meal here is a must to experience the flavours... loved the bugs with prawn mousseline and ginger soba noodles.... and the dessert platter to share is to die for!!!

As for the price... as there is no view, it costs about the same to fine dine here as it does in one of the waterfront restaurants on the boardwalk only the food is much much better!

“Very good food - must visit for the fine diners”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

Very good service, the waitress was very helpful. We were there only for 2 days, would have gone there again if had more time, interesting dishes, very nicely served. Taste was great, presentation was great, good for vegetarians as well.
