“Terrific location, but about your King bed...”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

Really enjoyed our four-night stay here. Location could not be better as it is right on the harbour and boardwalk. You could walk anywhere downtown in a matter of minutes. Our 10th-floor room had a nice deck and offered a great view of the water. Watch for all the bats that fly by at dusk. It's an amazing sight. Our only disappointment was with the size of our bed. We had booked through Expedia a one-bedroom suite with a King bed. Calling it a Queen would be a stretch as it felt like a Double. We complained at front desk but were told we had a King. Apart from that, our room (1007) was nice, with a big sectional sofa in living room and a nice little kitchen.

The positives first - great location, pleasant staff (especially the lady who checked us in), and the one bedroom apartment was spacious, clean and modern. There is a nice pool to do a couple of laps in next to a very small gym, although it was too cold for the kids when they tried to use it.

However, the room (601) was very sterile (no floor coverings on the tiles) and on top of that, this was a "physically challenged" room. We were there for just one night, so we didn't bother making a fuss about this, but it did feel unsuitable and clinical, especially the toilet.

Also, the walls are thin so there is a bit of noise from neighbouring rooms, especially laundry noise. As for our own laundry, we couldn't figure out how to use it initially (it is a combi washer/dryer) and when we rang for help we were told there should have been instructions in the laundry (there werent). We figured it out eventually, after it started washing our clothes again instead of drying. This machine was also the loudest dryer we've ever experienced (and we've had quite a few experiences of combi washer/dryers in various hotels)! We thought it was going to explode; my 6 year old son covered his ears; we closed the laundry door but could still hear it. Apparently they are trialling this machine and we were one of the three lucky rooms it is in. Jeez, for the sake of their guests' hearing they should not purchase any more of these machines. Husband keeps joking that we'll get one of these after ours dies, or I might get one for my birthday.

All up, it was ok for one night, but severely lacking atmosphere.

Room Tip: Rm 601 is "physically challenged" friendly with the special loo.

On arrival I was greeted by very friendly and helpful staff that informed me that there had been a booking hiccup; however, offered me an upgraded room.
The room was very comfortable and offered everything you would expect from a hotel of this caliber; very clean, practical layout and comfortable bed.
The location is excellent as it is central to business area and is very handy to great restaurants and cafes.
I would recommend the Cairns Harbour Lights to anybody travelling to Cairns for business or pleasure.

Couldn't ask for a better location, close to the shops, restaurants, boardwalk, activities. Service was only impeccable. The room we had had a kit he être, but with so many restaurants near by, who would want to cook for yourself. I would come back here.

Excellent location - on the waterfront with convenient access to boat tours for sightseeing and diving - would definitely stay there again. The self contained apartment allowed us to prepare our own food or alternatively we could eat out at one of the nearby restaurants.

We stayed here for 3 nights and definitely not disappointed. Staff went out of their way to help, and ensure everything was satisfactory. We got a good deal on Travel Zoo, but were not looked down upon, as have had experience with other accommodations. We had a balcony over looking the inlet, as opposed to the harbour, but still very nice. The room was spacious and very comfortable. I loved that the hotel was so close to everything, especially the marina where dive boats left from, as it made th e early morning start easier being so close. Definitely would stay again!

This hotel is in a fantastic location, close to the pier, great cafes / restaurants and the "city". The rooms are pleasant enough, and the hotel amenities are good - the pool is great, the gym handy and the BBQ area nice. The staff are excellent at servicing any request and I always felt welcomed. I stayed here for almost a month and would highly recommend this place for any business traveller or any holiday maker. Small criticisms would be there is no wireless in the room, only access to a cable internet. The second TV in the bedroom is tiny and quite pointless. The sauna seemed to be broken for the entire month. The bed was a bit of an issue - a king which was simply two singles pushed together and not that comfortable. The "doona" was also strange. Overall, though I would not stay anywhere else.
