Nice setup. Extremely courteous staff and very friendly. Good workout too. The birds/wild-life were few and far between. That's not what you come here for. Visit the zoo for that.

This is a bunch of (low to medium level) adrenaline opportunities that suit beginner/child etc Nice layout and far better than having the same in a boring old warehouse.

Will visit again when next in Cairns.

Really fab attraction, especially spotting all the different birds in the dome. Our kids loved it here and definitely recommend. You won't spend hours in here but a few is all you need to keep the kids happy before you head to the lagoon!

How sad to see the birds and animals play second fiddle to a noisy "adventure" course. The noise from the obstacle course was awful and I'm sure stressful for the birds. The first time we visited approximately five years ago this was a lovely area to walk round with the birds flying freely and even sitting on your shoulder, now there is little activity from the birds who seemed stressed hanging on the wire in the corner. Depressing.

We're sorry to hear your negative feedback on the Cairns ZOOm & Wildlife Dome. I appreciate your concern for the welfare of our animals, but I can assure you that our staff are experts in looking after them and are just as passionate about their wellbeing as you are.

With regards to the Challenge Ropes Course, the activities themselves make very little noise. Other than occasional excited calls from ZOOm participants, most are fairly quiet whilst concentrating on completing the course, and you are far more likely to hear loud calls or squawks from the birds instead. Furthermore, the animals in the Dome are used to human interaction and behaviour, having resided in this interactive environment within the Cairns CBD for several years.

The Dome is a wildlife immersion exhibit - that is, the majority of animals are free flying and free roaming. As a result, visitors will see most of these animals opportunistically, so we recommend walking slowly around the Dome so as not to miss anything. The birds are also enjoying additional perching provided by Cairns ZOOm at greater heights, whilst the red-tailed black cockatoos will often still perch on your shoulder.

We have increased our number of species within the Dome over the last year, so there would actually be more animals than when you visited 5 years ago, including the noisy pitta, tawny frogmouths, Merten’s water monitor, mahogany gliders, and Murray darling carpet python. Some new displays have recently been completed, and others are in the pipeline.

With regards to the stress levels of our animals, breeding and mating indicates a lack of stress, and all of our birds and lizards have been exhibiting this behaviour, including our doves, eclectus parrots and buff-banded rails, and for the first time our kookaburras are trying to nest.
