Two of us travelled on a 8 day package deal. Room provided for us was at the end of the appartment block. We found it too noisy during the early mornings and requested after two nights a room change. Management very helpfull, had to pay extra $30 for the change [$30 was for the cleaning of the room as we were moving out early, which was acceptable] and were provided with a room inside the complex overlooking the swimming pools and garden . When making your booking will pay to ask for a room situated away from the road and inside the complex.

Room Tip: We travelled as a package deal, but the room we were given was on the end of the complex and the outs...

One bedroomed apts more than acceptable for two people for short or long term let.Large clean bathroom with full laundry facilities. No change of bed linen or towels, but they do say that on their web site.Bedroom itself bit tight but lots of space in living room & huge balcony (little privacy though with neighbours directly opposite). No lift so be prepared for at least 2 flights of wooden steps.Nice pools with surrounding communal bbq areas.Communal laundry facilities too.As a single person,i found them a little out of the way of the main thoroughfare, especially walking back at night, but location great for shopping centre which caters for every need.Any day trippers with tours booked will find themselves first on the bus as SCAA seems to be 1st stop on all their itineraries. Overall, i enjoyed my stay there & would recommend.

Room Tip: room on a high floor overlooking the pool

My partner and i stayed here for 4 nights in late July. The location of these apartments is absolutely perfect as its a 2 minute walk to cairns centro shopping centre and a 5 minute walk to all the restaurants and pubs, a 10-15 minute walk to the beach/lagoon. the rooms were clean and comfortable, our unit was self contained and had its own little balcony. The resort has 3 pools, and a gym and is very secure. Apart from the rubbish bins being emptied at 7- 7.30am every morning which wakes you up, and the toilet paper and complimentry shampoo being the worst quality we have ever experienced, there was not much to complain about. had a good stay and would stay again.

Upon arrival the staff were very unfriendly and unco-operative. Rude would be the word to describe the reception staff. The rooms are dull and dark - very much like a cave. No fresh air circulating. However, the accommodation is well located next to a large shopping centre and walking distance to The Esplanade.

Firstly I must thank other reviewers of this property, their comments were my main reason for choosing this accommodation (although I only booked 3 weeks prior to travel so options were limited). Previous reviewers comments were all valid and advice was taken on board when booking. When choosing, I am looking for accommodation to suit my husband & I and two kids 10 & 11 with self catering, washing machine, a decent nearby pool and not too far from all attractions. This apartment offers it all, but given advice from other reviewers, I did and will continue to be more assertive when booking. I rang SCAA and asked lots of questions and as a result when booking online requested a ground floor apartment with pool view, quiet, middle of the complex location. They delivered! With kids that are old enough to swim with limited supervision, it was 1 metre from our shuttered dining patio to the pool through a secure pool gate. My hubby & I were able to relax on the porch and safely hear our children playing in the pool without the requirement of constant supervision and being "stuck" away from our room, we were able to relax and enjoy our holiday as well - instead of being slaves to our children's needs. We had the dual key apartments, which was handy, we just left the 2nd set of keys in each of the doors and left them open during the day (there is another external door which is locked to outsiders) and closed them at night for privacy. We used the shower in the kids "King" room as it was roomier. Our bathroom had washing machine and dryer, which was well used and the bonus was a drawer style dishwasher which was also well used with cheap "no name" powder from the nearby Coles (1 drawer is great as there is only 6 lots of crockery so you don't have to wait for a full load and run out of plates, etc.). Distance from the Esplanade was about 5 blocks which in very humid conditions could get tiring, but great exercise and walking off all those extra holiday treats was a bonus. Cairns Central Mall was well equipped with Coles and BiLo, a butchers, Bakers Delight plus lots of usual "complex" shops. Bottle shops in Qld are not generally with supermarkets as in Victoria, but the Grand Hotel drive through was just a bit further over the road from Cairns Central and we cheekily "drove thru" with our trolley. Reception staff were helpful and imformative with tour bookings and provided this service for free. We had complimentary breakfast in the onsite "Cafe & Bar" twice, which is just open for breakfast - not as otherwise advertised. We did hear the train, but didn't bother us greatly as it wasn't frequent, also heard a little noise from unloading trucks at nearby Officeworks but once again, wasn't a bother to us as we don't tend to sleep in late. All in all, great apartments, but you must request your exact requirements, instead of hoping you'll get the room in the photos!! Thanks SCAA.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay SCAA.

Arriving at 4:15am, I rang and was helped by the night porter/ caretaker, the very friendly Peter, who also responded quickly later on to minor door repairs and helped crank up the sauna.

We got a ground floor pool view studio in the block nearest the reception, which was fine for two individual people's needs. We were there there for the Cairns Ukulele Festival, for 6 nights, second week in July, so we were out a lot of the time, but it was a lovely little retreat to come 'home' to and a relaxing place to unwind.

The kitchen was great and equipped for two- I spent $40 at the supermarket next door and self-catered for almost a week (only ate out twice plus the odd ice cream from one of the numerous gelaterias and ice creameries in the Esplanade and Aplin St foreshore precinct). I even came home with all my clothes washed- the coin operated laundry opposite reception will cost you $6 ie $3 each for a washing machine and dryer load, plus $1.50 for powder from reception or BYO. Other perks include kettle and tea/coffee ingredients plus a hairdryer, large clothes wardrobe with iron, baskets and clothes drying rack (handy as Cairns is humid and towels, and even synthetic bathing suits, take a while to dry).

Peter the friendly caretaker showed me one of the larger apartments- it has a separate queen bedroom, larger living area, a bath as well as shower, a washing machine and a large dining deck, and can be rented double with a studio like ours which had twin beds, so a couple with kids, or a couple of couples, could rent both. They connect via a common entry hall, so doors can be left open and the place would feel like one apartment but can be closed up for privacy too.

Make sure you ask for pool view, unless you're happy to overlook the carpark! I imagine the first and second floor apartments would be slightly lighter, especially those on the cafe side of the pool, but ours opposite was not at all gloomy, with large windows, and not having to negotiate stairs was a bonus on the ground floor. You literally walked straight out of the gate off the outdoor dining porch and into the pool! Cold water spa in the pools. The gym with its sauna (nice after cooler weather ansd lots of walking) is up the other end, but the entire complex is not huge, so an easy stroll and there are pools in the middle of each group of units, including the gym block.

Excellent value for us- at $52 a night as part of a flight + hotel package from Perth, and splitting that two ways, it was cheaper than most backpackers in Cairns! By all accounts, this sort of bargain is rare, but even if you paid twice as much, you would be getting excellent value for your money, and friendly service compared to other high season options.

Re noise- we only heard the train during the day and apart from minor people chatter, it was very tranquil. It's near the station so easy to get to Kuranda etc. I suggest people stop whinging about noise and carry a good set of earplugs!

The interior is small, when arranged as twin beds rather than pushed together as a double, but there are drawers, hanging space and other nooks and crannies to stash your bags and you can rearrange things a bit. The only other minor con is no fan in the bathroom, so it can steam up- just remember to keep the overhead window open fully to let steam out.

Room Tip: Ask for Pool view to avoid carpark view!
