As a local I just love Behana Gorge! Three of us set off on the walk at 7am this morning and now we're home promising ourselves that we must do it more often. It's so great to get away from the crowds (we saw only 2 other people during the 3 hours we spent hiking and picnicking) in a "no frills" environment that's still the way it used to be when we first discovered this little gem some 15 years ago. Yes, there are plenty of hills and, as other writers have noted, the last 2 or 3 are quite taxing, but, the walk out at least is much easier. The waterfall was thundering, the river raging and the water-holes swirling to the extent that we decided against a swim this time: In fact, a degree of caution is recommended when exploring the upper reaches of this gorge.
