As a local I just love Behana Gorge! Three of us set off on the walk at 7am this morning and now we're home promising ourselves that we must do it more often. It's so great to get away from the crowds (we saw only 2 other people during the 3 hours we spent hiking and picnicking) in a "no frills" environment that's still the way it used to be when we first discovered this little gem some 15 years ago. Yes, there are plenty of hills and, as other writers have noted, the last 2 or 3 are quite taxing, but, the walk out at least is much easier. The waterfall was thundering, the river raging and the water-holes swirling to the extent that we decided against a swim this time: In fact, a degree of caution is recommended when exploring the upper reaches of this gorge.

The walk here is relatively long through the national park but is paved and tracks alongside the water supply pipe. Once you get towards the end of the walk, the waterfall, previously hidden by the vegetation, becomes apparent and is quite breathtaking. You can then get closer to the waters edge and have a swim in one of the pools downstream. I have now been a few times and it has never been that busy, even on weekends. Although it is possible to do with sandals, trainers are preferable. Worth visiting for the scenery and the walk.

What a fantastic place. Quite a beautiful walk and so back to nature. See the lovely Behana creek and beautiful grottos as you wind your way up to the waterfall. Just delightful and not too touristy.

Behana gorge is a long walk, the path is very good and it's pretty.
It's 4.8km to the falls at the top & is graded, the last hill is the hardest so a dip in the pool at the falls is refreshing.
Unless you're really into walking, crystal cascades is much prettier & a lot closer.

So i think its a 3 or 5 km walk to the actual waterfall and awesome swimming spot but its lovely and the walk is mostly concrete as i can recall. the water is freezing but after the walk on a hot day is really refreshing...great spot for a picnic. some rocks to jump off. waterfalls to swim under. just lovely.
