This was our 5th visit to China Palace, and sadly, will be the last. We've actually enjoyed the meals here but the issue stems from the "creative" billing process. Watch the prices change from menu to bill. Prior to this last visit, we were overcharged about $15 on a basic lunch menu, which we worked out afterwards (we had to leave in a hurry), but today took the cake. Whilst we were advised there would be a slight increase in charges due to an ingredient substitute (ie: fish for pork), everything was repriced. It was only after I queried the bill that the bill was reduced, but not without challenge. However with a needy lunch guest and not wanting further hassles, it was easy to swallow the (still dubious) total and leave, and simply never return. Beware the multiple menu "versions" with their accordingly multiple "prices".

But I reiterate, the food was excellent (and filling), but nobody enjoys being ripped off. Play fair.

Went to this restaurant as it was in the Cairns Dining Guide. We were uttlerly dissapointed, not only were the meals overpriced but we ordered a san choi bow that had two pathetic lettuce leaves with a teaspoon of mince. We also ordered two soups that were the size of a rice bowl and cost $10. Will not be returning here again, nor reccomend it. Absolutely pathetic excuse for a chinese restaurant! We left and went to the little banana leaf down the road, beautiful food.

It was a last minute decision to walk into China Palace Restaurant because the place we wanted to go to was closed (on a Sunday night!). Warning bells should have gone off when we noticed that there was only one customer inside, while the other chinese places were quite full. Service was quick and efficient - we brought in our own beer and were allowed to drink it without any corkage fee - the food, however, was a different story. Not only overpriced, but also lacking in taste. Fried rice we ordered was a little mushy and bland. Sizzling mongolian lamb was tender, but it was not sizzling and the taste left much to be desired. As it turned out it was the best dish of the day. What came out next can only be discribed as horrible. It was meant to be satay squid. The squid itself was not bad, but the sauce was from a different planet, it did not bear any resemblance to any satay sauces we have ever consumed. Watery, tastless liquid, with lots of sweet pinaple pieces, not a hint of peanuts or chilli. Simply disguisting. We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. You might as well be eating some cardboard.
