“11th birthday to remember for boy with autism”
Reviewed November 16, 2013

Whilst at Mossman Gorge we saw a helicopter land and take off, so we asked our son if he would like to go on one for his birthday. Our son is autistic and he gave us a thumbs up because he can not talk.

We were staying at the Sheraton in Port Douglas and went into the GBR local office next to the resort to organise a flight. The lady in the office was very understanding of our needs and went to great lengths to make sure our son was well catered for. We decided to take the 40 minute flight out to the Quicksilver pontoon, spend two hours out there and then return to Port Douglas on a 40 minutes flight back .

We arrived at the office at 9am for our safety briefing and went to the landing pad near the hotel to wait for the helicopter to arrive. After it landed, the pilot shut down the helicopter completely so that the noise was not too loud for our son when we boarded and got comfortable.

The 40 minute flight out to the reef took us up the coastline and over the rainforest before heading out over the reef to the Quicksilver pontoon. On the pontoon we had time to go on the submersible boat, have lunch and snorkel our on the reef before getting ready for our 40 minute return flight.

The only disappointing aspect of the flight was the communication system was not working so we could not speak to each other or hear the pilot talk about the scenery and landmarks.

Our son really enjoyed himself and is extremely proud of his GBR Helicopter Cap that he received for his birthday. Flying over the reef is a once in a lifetime experience and one that our family will cherish for a long time to come.

Having a special needs child is extremely challenging and it can be difficult to organise to do anything at times. The lady at GBR certainly went out of her way to make the day run as smoothly as possible for us.

Worst thing about the day was our mobile phone was sucked out of the window when we banked around to see some dolphins playing in the water. Most of our photos gone, but the memories will last for ever.

“Great Reef helicopter trip with Tom”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

Could only afford 10 minutes, would have liked to spend a lot more time. Worth every penny though and Tom our pilot was great. He was very good at finding turtles and sharks to view from 500 feet.

“A whole new perspective of Mossman Gorge”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

We've been to Mossman gorge a few times but a adding a 10 minute trip up the gorge on the helicopter gave us a whole new perspective- a truly memorable addition to the trip. I'm from the mining industry so safety is a part of my life and GBR imprressed me with their attention to safety. Lindsay the the pilot was the perfect blend of calm professional and knowledgeable guide.... and relatively affordable for the experience- the views of the rain forest and back to Port Douglas were amazing- the kids cant stop talking about the thrill. The new Gorge centee is also great.
