Owner description: Kuranda Scenic Railway is the original scenic rail journey to Kuranda. This spectacular experience travels over bridges and through tunnels hand-made by North Queensland's pioneers over 100 years ago. Traversing the World Heritage listed rainforest of the Barron Gorge National Park, this is one of the world's great railway journeys.

It was great to see kuranda from another view as we went back to cairns in the railway. The information was incredible and the views were breathing taking. The crew were also very friendly.

While the ride from Kanunda to Cairns is slow and longish it is certainly worth it. Nowadays most people want everything at great speed so it is lovely to experience something that takes a little while. The scenery is breathtaking, the staff is lovely and we had a good chat with all the other tourists. We enjoyed it very much. Thank you

If you are in Cairns you must take a trip on the Karunda scenic railway and the Sky rail (cable car). It doesn't matter which way round you do it, but we went up on the Sky rail, it's not for the faint hearted as it takes you high above the rain forrest, with fantastic views of waterfalls. It's quite a long ride up but there are 2 stops on route where you can walk a short way to take in fabulous views, then hop back on right to the top at Karunda. At Karunda there are some souveneir shops. Karunda is very small so probably 2hrs is more than enough to spend up there. The best bit is the 2 hr journey back down on the fabulous scenic railway. It has 2 beautifully painted deisel engines pulling about 12 carriages. It weaves it way back down to Cairns station below. It really offers beautiful views on the 2 hr journey down. A must thing to do.

Nice views but incredibly expensive for what it is. Kids got pretty bored with it after awhile. Friendly staff

If you would like the se the scenery and are not in to heights then take the Kuranda Scenic Railway. It takes you to the Kuranda markets which are the best in Far North Queensland. They are where one can see Arts and Crafts galore and purchase as one pleases many souvenirs. There are shops as well with interesting artefacts and meals at many cafes. There is a fair amount of walking to do but if it is not too hot then that's fine and well worth the effort. One could spend a day or two relaxing and browsing around there then catch the Skyrail or Railway back to Cairns.
