I stayed here with my friend for her 60th as we had an event to go to at another local hotel.
For one of the oldest hotels in Cairns it is a real shame it hasnt got Heritage funds to do up the original hotel bedrooms and common areas. The original veranda area is superb.
We had room 217 which is in the newer section.
The room itself was large and inviting with a king bed and a single bed, fridge, TV, wardrobe and coffee/tea making facilities. The bathroom was dated and a bit strange as the taps to the shower were to the outside of the shower!
Another negative for the room was the frosted window. OK, it might not have a view but one does like to look out of a window, even if its at a brick wall. You couldnt even open the window!!
The newer part of the hotel was very dated in the common areas. Think 70's and youve got it right.
The pool was great if a little shabby.
Parking in the hotel area cost me $10. There are limited spaces so if you know you need a space then be sure to book.
The receptionist was very friendly and helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble.
Finally, the breakfast that was included in the price was a cold buffet with cereal, fruit, toast/bread, cold and hot drinks. I personally couldnt fault it.More
