Good atmosphere, comfortable room and a decent location. They helped me book a great reef experience and offered good advice on the different options. The real jewel in the crown with this hostel is the staff, exceptionally helpful with a great attitude, thanks a lot Natalie!

As one of the smallest Hostels in Cairns we feel its very important to have a friendly atmosphere and make the guest feel welcomed, we really enjoy it . Thanks for our stay .

We stayed in Dreamtimes for 3 nights and really liked our stay. The facilities were good and clean, the staff very friendly, the place was quiet. There were two kitchens to prepare some food. Some days they had a barbecue in the court of the hostel. And we have to mention Chris at the reception who was excellent with advice about what to do in and around Cairns. He was very considerate, friendly and easy that we always felt invited to ask whatever question there was.

My wife an I stayed at dreamtime for 3 nights and can't speak highly enough about how awesome this place is. We have spent 2 month traveling southeast Asia and 10 months in Australia and this is the best hostel overall we have stayed at.
Great friendly welcoming atmosphere, staff were really helpfully and you can tell straight away it a family run business. The story behind the place is truly inspiring!

The rooms where homely, comfortable and immaculate, great places all around the hostel to chill out either on couches, hammocks or by the lovely pool. Plenty of kitchens dotted around aswell so there isn't any fighting for facility's. They had a $12 BBQ on a Wednesday night which was delicious, big portions and cooked, kangaroo and croc if you haven't tasted it!
Then after a fire show, we watched quite afew fire shows traveling Thailand and Cambodia but nothing like this. The acts were amazing, mesmerizing at times and they are all locals. Definitely worth spending a Wednesday night here. The tour desk has a huge amount of options for reef tours, cape tribulation tours, campers and everything you will need.
Location is about 10mins walk from the lagoon or town centre, some people might want to be right in the heart of the backpacker part of town but dreamtime is in a nice chilled out location. Near enough to everything but far enough away from the late nights.
Would highly reccomend this hostel for a awesome nights stay and we will definitely be back.

This is one of the best hostels ever. It is clean, friendly, relaxed and conveniently located right behind the shopping mall... literally a 5 minute walk to the grocery stores and 15 minute walk to the esplanade.

The staff are great and really friendly... Nat and Chris you rock! Nat is the best tour agent and guide, and kept me busy for my stay by booking me onto some great tours, including Cape Tribulation and Kuranda.

I would totally recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a quiet and chilled out place to stay while in Cairns.

Dreamtime Travellers Rest is a cozy, comfortable and super laid-back to stay and relax near the center of balmy Cairns.

I took a shuttle from the Cairns Airport to the hostel, and paid only $5 for the ride. However, I learned from the friendly hostel receptionist that it would cost $12 to return by the same shuttle to the airport. “We have that agreement with the shuttle company,” she said. Well, at least I saved $7.00!

Dreamtime is located directly behind the main Cairns Shopping Centre through which runs the train. So it is an excellent location for people arriving by rail and/or for folks who want to shop. I found Cairns to be flooded with hotels, motels and backpacker places of all kinds and prices, but I chose Dreamtime because of its high rating. I did check out the nearby Cairns YHA, which was much cleaner and better organized than Dreamtime. However, I was staying only two nights there, had a relaxing time, and met some nice people from different parts of the world.

This hostel has two reasonable clean kitchens, plenty of toilets and showers, a tiny swimming pool (mostly for wading), several strung hammocks, many clean tables and chairs, and several enclaves with tables and comfy chairs for relaxing.

The receptionist provides vouchers for free suppers at a place down the street. The usual menu is basic spaghetti, and portions tend to be small. For a few dollars, guests can upgrade to a more substantial and larger menu. If you show up between 7:00 and 8:00 pm, you are required to order and pay for a drink. After 8:00 pm, you don’t need to order a drink; simply eat up your free spaghetti and leave.

There is no WiFi at the hostel, but one can use its computers to access Internet at a charge. Alternatively, one can walk about five blocks to McDonald’s (across the street from the Art Gallery) where there is free WiFi, if you have your own computer, but the service there is quite slow. You might also check out the local library – not far from the Dreamtime Hostel – to check if Internet and/or WiFi are free of charge.
