“deluxe apartment was lovely”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

Our family with 2 little ones had a great time here. The apartment was huge, with a great big balcony, and very little noise from the pool beside us. Our kids loved the pool - good for toddlers, with a sandpit to play in. Very happy.

However, I wouldn't recommend booking with Zuji - I'm finding it impossible to obtain a tax receipt for the trip with very rude people manning the phones!

we just had a week at the lakes and it was fantastic - close to cairns' best attraction, the botanical gardens, so you can access the red arrow walk at 6 am and then go for a swim - the bus leaves from out the front - we had a private rental but obviously you can go directly through the lakes resort - the only thing that could have been improved is provision of citronella burners near the pool, because there are loads of midges and they BITE!

Room Tip: one at the front with a balcony, or overlooking the pool, although watch out for the midges near the...

We stayed 5 nights and it was perfect. The 2BR apartment was spacious and had everything we needed. The whole resort was brilliantly maintained, the pools always clean and the gardens neat and well kept. It was very quiet and no noise at all from the pool areas overnight. We booked the Essentials package through the resort website which included day trips to Green Island and Kuranda scenic railway/skyrail, a great option meaning that we didn't need to organise these separately and we were collected from right outside the resort (Cairns has the friendliest bus drivers I have ever experienced!!). We didn't have a vehicle, nor did we need one as the shuttle bus provided a great (very friendly again) service, including when we were fully laden with groceries. We walked back along the Esplanade from the night markets one evening (only 3km). The staff were all very friendly. We will definately be back and recommend The Lakes to others travelling to Cairns.

Room Tip: We stayed in Apartment 1004 (Koolivoos). The huge lanai and deck overlooked the main pool and the l...

Stayed here and have heard so many good things about this place. I will start with a positive pools were amazing the children loved them!!
The room was very out of date and just looked old and warn out. There was black hair in the room and non of my family have black hair. The balcony was so tiny and there was no table and chair even though i would not have sat out there as the view was of a off road dirt track with a large hole with dirty water. The room just felt dirty that really just annoyed me and I could not wait to check out. Reception staff were lovely.

We stayed in room 711 for 10 days on a groupon voucher and if we went again we would only consider staying at the lakes ! Everything was brilliant from the service to the resort facilities to the apartment. We had a 2 bed apartment with Lanai. It was on the second floor, steps are a pain esp with suitcase, but worth the effort. Woolworths delivered our online order the next morning after we arrived (a very smart choice) and they delivered to our apartment - I totally recommend this service. The resort has fabulous pools, a restaurant, hairdressers, bar, mini shop for those items you run out of, etc. I recommend a hire car, as it's the best way to get around anyway, and the resort is on the outer edge of town - and we found that a blessing - we were out of the hustle and it was quiet - except for the planes that took off, but you get used to that pretty quickly, plus it's awesome to watch. There is a shuttle bus that enters the resort if you don't hire a car, loYoked like a great service. It's a beautiful place to stay, the gardens are amazing. The apartment also had a top loader wash machine and dryer - and we used it every day ! There seemed to be many permanent residents, but it wasn't noticeable nor did it effect our holiday at all. Overall, the resort is beautiful, staff (especially Ken) was great, and it was safe and secure. And if you want your room serviced, they will do it. It has all the facilities and more. It doesn't have free wifi but you have access to a Internet service for a fee. We were unlucky enough to get the flu while being there, so it was handy to have the Woolworth delivery, ordered food via the restaurant, little bits from their small shop. And if you need a doctor in Cairns, their medical service is brilliant. One clinic was open til 10pm 7 days, and you can always get an appt, another is open 24hrs and then there is dial a doctor - and they all bulk bill ! Hope my review helps you....

Room Tip: Our 2 bed apartment with a lanai was very spacious

My wife and I stayed for 16 nights in room 1011. On arrival all was explained to us and we were give keys and directions and maps. The room was immaculate and there was tean & coffee to start us off, along with a jug of water chilling in the refrigerator and ice in the freezer. It may be on the edge of town but its a nice walk in along the esplanade and a 10min buss ride back. The lakes & botanical gardens are just a few mins walk. Dont miss out on the Zoo or the Night Markets. The pools were clean and gardeners tended the flowers each morning. Maid service was efficient and discrete. We would stay there again in preference to any of the more central hotels.

Room Tip: Buy a 1 day pass for the buss - do Palm Cove or Zoo & Night Markets

This was our fourth visit to the lakes resort and it never fails to give us what we want.
The apartments are great. There are no lift though so if you get the third floor you have to cart your bags. It is a large villiage of apartments with four pools only one restaurant at the moment and a spa. I had a facial at reds and the staff are great beautiful facial!!
Some of the apartments do need upgrading and new TVS but the staff told us refurbishment is starting next year. It is a lovely immaculately kept place. the pools so clean. It is immpressive. The lime bar was closed this visit but we were assured it will be reopening. There is only one restaurant operating at present but only opens for breakfast lunch and dinner not all day. Shame. We would have gone for coffees.
The staff are good and the rooms are clean and every request I made for more towels or anything was handled promptly. The apartments are self contained with washing facilities so really good for familys and if you are on a budget you don't have to have everyday servicing. they will do a service after a week. Great for the budget. Well equipped and beautiful surrounds close to edge hill and the botanical gardens. We always hire a car as it is a five minute drive into Cairns city. I would highly recommend the place. It is made up of the resort holiday rental pool, owner occupiers and long term rentals so the pools for the holiday makers during the day are great not over crowded. A love rest and holiday!!

Room Tip: Larger apartments with the Lanais are good. Request a pool view!
