Had a late overnight stay here enroute to Townsville. The staff were pleasant, the room was suitable and very clean with no mould smells that can be common in the tropics at this time of year. $16 to $20 taxi fare to/from the airport although they do offer an airport drop off service for $15 pp. The pool area looked clean and relaxing. This property is old but it is very well maintained is a very fair price per night and gives a nice sense of being in the tropics. No WiFi in rooms just 15 free mins in the reception area. More time can be purchased.

Overall a very good place to stay and excellent value for money. The hotel does have a bus travelling to / from town at set times but if you hire a car or even a bike before you get there that's even better.

Room Tip: Breakfast is very good plus..Keeps you going for most of the day. Best to hire a bike or car to get...

The hotel is quite a distance from town and you will need to organsie transport or use the courtesy bus. The whole resort looks pretty tired and it feels as if hundreds of rooms are 'packed in' into the facility. Due to the high room density, there is a fair amount of after hours noise from the other guests and quite often you will see the shadow of a guest passing right in front of your window which can be a little disconcerting. The rooms themselves (at least the one we were in) have undergone refurbishment in the last few years and they are quite new and comfortable. The pools are pretty good, however they are not heated, so while the air temp may be a pleasent 27 degrees, the water might be 20 degrees. The restaurant was also disappointing so we dined out every night. (but again as you are not near tthe city centre this is problematic).

Room Tip: search for a better option...

We stayed at The Colonial Club from the 24th Dec to the 27th, to celebrate Christmas and Boxing Day festivities with 20-30 family members and friends. The room was great, clean up to date and suited the wife and myself fine. When the kids were younger, l would have commented on the 3 pools they have, and the games room that would keep them busy all day while we relaxed. Now their older its "Dad, wheres the bar" not that lm complaining, just funny how life moves so fast, lol. We had the free cooked breakfast from the Homestead Restaurant included in our room rate and like us, everyone loved, l couldnt get enough of the scrammbled eggs, mmm. We also got a couple of meals for dinner and salads for lunch, and they were all just as nice, 8/10 on the meals. The only thing that was a downer, was the rubbish left after xmas day around the pool area cause it stunk. But credit to the staff, after a phone call, 10mins and it was all cleaned up. The only reason l mention it, as it should have been picked up earlier (especially in this heat). Other than that, its a nice relaxin place to chill and enjoy yourself, friends and family. Happy 2014 everyone.

rooms are great, not as fancy as some but they are upgrading, beds are very comfortable, rooms are very clean, staff are fabulous, late checkout was not a problem and didn't cost anything.
the pools are fantastic.
breakfast is usually really good value, last stay a little disappointing, very little fresh fruit, otherwise great.
dinner seemed a little expensive until we got the food, it was delicious.
we have stayed here 4 times and will continue to do so.
they often have great deals that have breakfast included or just the room.

Room Tip: if you want total quiet, book a room away from the pool as if there are kids around, they are into t...

I booked this as it wasn't clear that this was so far out of the centre and it said great pool, 4 star. This is NOT a 4 star hotel by any means - not for an international traveller anyway. Location - out of the centre however there is a courtesy bus, they charge more than the local bus for this courtesy bus!!! Restaurant terrible!. No choice, terrible quality and breakfast - well that was shocking. No decent choice, coffee terrible. Pool - looks lovely but water so warm it's hard to get refreshed. Staff ok but it's obvious that they even don't believe they are in a quality hotel.

Room Tip: don't stay here/
