Cairns Colonial Club Resort
Ranked #38 of 63 Hotels in Cairns

The room I stayed in was basic but clean. The bed was comfortable and there was a good selection of pillows from which to choose from.

My only bugbears about the hotel are that the walls are very thin and that the door didn't feel overly secure.

I was located at the junction of two pathways and a stairwell. This meant there was a lot of foot traffic (with the associated noise) and strong lighting shining through the curtains throughout the night. Also I could readily hear my neighbours packing for their flight the next day.

The door to the room also didn't feel secure. It could have been that the walls were only couple of cm thick and thus psychologically I thought the door could be kicked in easily.

This hotel is close to the airport but not the city centre, so it's a good stopover destination if you've got an early morning flight.

If you are staying in Cairns this is not the place for you as it is a long way out of the centre - too far to walk. There is nowhere else to eat in the vicinity so you really have to eat in the hotel. However, if you just want a bed before catching a plane, the location is perfect as the airport is 5 mins away. It is a slightly dated place once you are out of the reception area. The rooms are adequate in size but typical for an Ibis. It was a fair walk from the room to the reception and restaurant. There was a room with PCs and limited free internet access; this also had free tea and coffee on hand. The restaurant offers an inclusive buffet of soup, salad and desserts for $19.90. It was OK but it lacked anything substantial to have with the salad. there was plenty of free on-site parking.

I liked the pictures and property description which may be viewed on the Accor web site and decided to book one night at this hotel when travelling through Cairns with my daughter. Very disapointed, (fortunately, I only booked one night at this hotel). I will not stay at this hotel again. The hotel is very far from (I do not think that this fact is made very clear at time of booking) the city / espanade and extremely difficult to find, (especially at night). Although the lobby looks lovely from the car upon arrival, (one gets a good impression of the property appearance upon arrival) public areas, pool area, room, restaraunt are all in poor shape and desperately in need of major cleanup, repair and / or modernisation. Other than the gentleman who was working the front desk at check-in... staff members generally appeared to be more interested in conversing with other staff rather than esuring the comfort and satisfaction of guests. This was my most disapointing stay at an Accor brand hotel. From what I saw, it was all too clear that major investment in the property is required and staff need re-training. This could be a really great place to stay with family. But a lot of work will be required in order to make this so.

The place felt like an shack. Everything felt old and creaky. But very clean and it does have some charm about it. Lots of children and families running around and the pool is great. For the price this is a great hotel and I would recommend to others.

After driving from Melbourne to Cairns in a campervan this was our last night on the east coast before flying to WA. We were allowed to check in early which was a great bonus and gave us all afternoon to sit around the pool which was right outside our room.
The room had 2 large double beds in (not sure why?) but was very comfortable, clean and cool! The bed we used was very comfortable and quiet, the whole of the hotel grounds are planted with palms and tropical plants, very relaxing.
Dinner at the restaurant was very enjoyable and the breakfast very substantial. As we didn't have to be at the airport until 4.30pm we were allowed to check out at 12noon at no extra cost and then were given use of a room with showers where we could change after another relaxing day around the pool.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
The only slight downside is the remoteness of the hotel, quite away out out the city which meant either getting a taxi or bus into town. We didn't see any shops or restaurants close enough to walk to but as we were there only one night it didn't impact on our stay. Very handy for airport though.
Would definitely recommend.

The location of the accommodation was perfect - it provided us with a central base to visit all the activities we wanted to engage in from white water rafting at Tully, Hartley's crocodile farm, scuba diving, barrier reef and other tourist attractions
A great central location
The accommodation was great as well, a large master bedroom, a second bedroom, 2 shower/toilets and a loung and balcony that you could sing a cat in
