I was only here for one night with my partner as we had come up from Sydney to see my nana in a nursing home nearby. I chose this hotel mostly based on its location and also for its very reasonable price. I didn't expect 5 stars and if I'd wanted something flashy or touristy I would've stayed near the esplanade. I probably wouldn't stay here if I were a tourist without a hire car but with a car it was no problem getting around Cairns. The rooms are very clean and basic, the aircon is a bit noisy so you really have to turn it off when you are asleep and keep the ceiling fan on. The pool is awesome and the outside surrounds are landscaped very tastefully. There is something a bit retro about it and it really does remind me of being a kid in Cairns in the 70s so I didn't much mind that it obviously hadn't been renovated much (except the bathroom). Our double bed was that European classic, 2 singles pushed together, so my partner at one point ended up sleeping in the crack!
Breakfast was a bit turgid so we opted out of it and went into Cairns to have something at one of the cafe's in Grafton St. The staff were very friendly and obliging.
Overall great value! Particularly if you're not on the main street side, not out to party all night every night (West Cairns is a bit sleepy), have kids who love the pool, and have a hire car to get around.

Room Tip: Ask for a poolside room on the side of the hotel off the side street

We stayed for 2 nights. We were very happy with the pool area, our kids loved using it and it was quite clean. The rooms and building are another story. The night we arrived we found a giant cockroach running around. We were moved to another room which was in a bit better condition. The rooms are very dated and need a major renovation. The common areas are also quite rundown, major repairs are also needed in these areas (halls, room doors, etc). The staff is very friendly and helpful, they are willing to help out with arranging tours, etc. The location is decent. It is across from a small mall with the basics (bargain stores, small food court & grocery stores). It is about a $30 can ride from the airport. The price is reasonable for what you get. Overall it provided the basics for our stay but they are in need of major upgrades.

rooms have good space, bathrooms roomy and clean. Louvre doors that screen sliding doors to balcony need changing to blockout curtains, hard to slide and let alot of life
pools are excellent. Breakfast is ok, bit of a squash as there is not much space where the food is.
there is not much wireless Internet service.
straight across the road there are food outlets and shopping.
Reception staff are very friendly and helpful.
most of this is very minor. Overall it is a great stay.

bought out stay as a package deal from sydney including flights so it was fairly cheap, the room we booked was described as a garden room which turned out to mean that it had a car park on one side and over looked a 4 lane highway on the other when we complained we were offered an upgrade to a poolside room for an additional 6 bucks a night which was fine but still backed on to the highway so between 7-9 am there was the constant noise of the morning traffic heading in to Cairnes. this was after being woken up at around 5-6am by the local large flock of cockatos which roost in a tree next to the hotel and make a lot of noise first thing in the morning, as the hotel seems to mainly attract young asian guests that seem to arrive and depart at all hours of the night i would not say it makes for a restfull nights sleep, there are few facilitys at the hotel it did not have a bar or resturant and the breakfast was a sad looking buffet which was not included in the price, if you wanted anything you had to go to the local shopping mall 100 meters away. there was a shuttle bus service in to town which was reasonably priced but it was not big enough and was often full resulting in haveing to wait while it droped off and came back also it did not run after 10 pm so no chance of a later evening meal without getting a cab back, one of the most anoying things is that you have to pay for wifi and it's 5 bucks an hour which is silly when you consider the local mall has it for free and also most of the down town area of Cairnes is also covered by a free service. the TV and air con appear to be original from when the hotel was built and are outdated and in need of improving. on the good side the rooms and pools were clean and the staff were very friendly but with most of the rooms either facing or backing on to the highway its worth confirming which room you are booking as it's quite a busy hotel and we were lucky to be able to change rooms. in hindsight one of the rooms on the other side of the pool would have been even better as they only back on to a small street and will be quieter

Room Tip: there are some rooms on the side of the hotel complex that is away from the main road and mall enterance, they are on the side where the main enterance is and a bit further along overlooking the "laps pool" and if you get a ground floor one you will have direct access to the pool. if you can get one on this side and the prices are as low as we paid its probably worth considering

I like this hotel. The rooms were clean, comfortable and large. The staff were very helpful and found the shuttle services very useful as the hotel is located on the outskirts of the Cairns town centre.

There were no facilities in the hotel for an evening meal nor a bar. Breakfasts were very mediocre and lacking that personally cook for you touch.

But overall, this hotel was just great for what I needed.
