For $70 a double that's unbeatable! Big rooms with tee/coffee making facilities, big bathrooms. Staff was very helpfull and got us even a quite room. Thank you!
Yes, the rooms are a little older and we had an old TV in our room. The AC and fan are hard to adjust to a lower level - we don't like it freecing at night. And yes, the beds are too soft. But hey, if you want a five star resort then pay for it and don't complain for what you paid for.
So ok, they can invest a little but I checkt a lot of other available hotels and backpackers and wouldn't choose a different place for the same price or pay more for a better TV or an AC with remote control.
BTW, room service is excellent!

Nice location...However dissappointed with the rooms.. beds were uneven and not comfortable to sleep. king size bed actually 2 x beds pushed together with ridge running down centre and quite unconfortable. No internet and high cost of using the wifi(wifi are complementary and free in most of the hotels and resorts) ... TV needs to be changed .... Should provide lunch and dinner option as well for in house guests. Suggest an upgrade as the hotel is situated in a very beautiful location.

Disappointed as advertised as 4 Star should be 1.5/2 star. Much different to whats advertised on internet. Retro and outdated furniture and fittings. Tv faulty, king size bed actually 2 x beds pushed together with ridge running down centre and quite lumpy. Shower designed for the vertically challenged. Bar/grill permanently closed. No toasters or microwave. Had to pay $3 each for beach towels that were actually bath towels, pay for wi-fi quite dear and pay $2 per day for safe key in room. Only thing complimentary is tea/coffee. No fault with staff very friendly and helpful.

When I went to book, being a family on a budget, I was quite sceptical with the price being so low and reading some reviews, thinking oh well we'll make the most of it if this place, "beggers can't be choosers" lol, BUT by-krickey, how awesome was this place.
We booked the "Family Quad Room", thinking all beds are in the same room, but quiet the contrary, there is a dividing door to separate our room from the kids, with our own tvs, bar fridge, so this room was bloody excellent to what I thought. Our balcony faced the hhuge lap pool, with a very spacious balcony, we felt very spoilt, compared to the normal rooms. The pools were amazing, if you find your kids missing, that's where you'll find them, the swam from morning to night lol.
The resort itself, is so handy to everything, we had a hire car, but to walk to the shopping mall next door to the food hall, which has Subway, Chinese, roast place, basically anything to fill your hunger pains, Red Rooster directly across the road, and the Raintrees tavern has a grill, which was very quiet when we went, but the Chinese chef could cook a bloody good steak. There are a few taverns in the vicinity who have bar & grills, the Balaclava just 5min drive, excellent, the Edgehill Tavern, 5mins again driving, basically everything is very close and handy to The Palm Royal.
But the service from the time we arrived to checking out is exceptional, absolutely loved the place, did not want to leave.
As for some reviews commenting on the upgrading of furniture & tvs, who honestly goes on holiday to sit and watch TV, some people can be so bloody pompus for their own good, seriously.
Brilliant value for money, service was of the highest standard, our room was fantastic, will definitely go back next time we are back in beautiful Cairns. THANK YOU PALM ROYALE, best holiday ever!!!

Room Tip: If you are a family, the "Quad Pool view room", has all what you'll need!!!

Furniture needs to be upgraded, esp TVs.
Spacious rooms overlooking 2 great sized pools.
Good buffet breakfast but a little crowded when full..size of cafe is small.
Overall a pleasant place to stay, but mainly caters for Asian tourists.
Not in the city centre but next door to shopping centre.
Buses run quite regularly.
For the price, worth the stay.

Room Tip: All overlook the pool areas with balconies.

Excellent service by the staff, who helped me booking a tour to Kuranda with hotel pickup. Rooms are clean and air-conditioned (a must!) and pretty standard for the price, but i really missed internet in the room. You have to go down to the lobby to login, which is not what i need after a long day. Also you have to pay for a key to the safe deposit box in the room. That really shouldn't be necessary.
The hotel is far away from the main city, but the two days i stayed there i was picked up for my Great Barrier Reef and Kuranda Tours. The neighborhood around the hotel is very boring, but there is a shopping center at the other side of the road.

Good value for money, but don't expect to talk a walk around the city after a long day. Then you need to take the bus or a taxi.
