We had a en suite room on the 4th floor, ocean (pool) view. The layout of the room is very functional, and was very clean. There is construction on the other side of the hotel, so do request a pool facing room.

The hotel is easy walking distance to some great restaurants on the Wharf. Also very close to the Esplanade, but those cafes were crowded and noisy. We had 3 meals at the wharf, all were very good and not too pricey.

Wireless internet is available, but not accessible from all rooms. I had to be outside our room in the exterior hallway. But it was free.

We just stayed here for five nights on a six week trip to Australia.
This hotel is located right in the CBD and within walking distance to everything including the train to Kuranda. You cannot beat the location. The rooms were spacious and clean and the front desk staff was so incredibly helpful. They booked all of our excursions and had the amounts billed directly to our room They could not have made the trip any easier. Definitely ask for a room facing the pool, as there is a construction site across the street. If you face the pool, you cannot hear any of the noise. This is a great hotel and you will not be disappointed.

Everything about this hotel was perfect - the greeting from the receptionist, the room and the location all exceeded our expectations. Our room overlooked the pool at the rear of the hotel, but we didn't notice any construction previously mentioned - having said that we were out most days, and spent only one afternoon by the very relaxing pool and terrace. Beautifully maintained I should add. And ok, you could maybe say that the corrogated building situated behind the pool wasn't the most attractive outlook but that was possibly the only negativity I could pin point. The room was more like a suite, the bedroom was a good size, with a seperate open plan kitchen and lounge, very nicely furnished. The bathroom could be accessed by a door from the entrance corridor and the bedroom. The bathroom cupboard hid a useful washing machine and tumble drier. The kitchen area housed a microwave, hob and large fridge freezer should you want to cater for yourself. But otherwise there is a vast array of restaurants and cafes to eat at. The hotel is perfectly located a short walk from the Esplanade and within a few doors from the night market, which really does come alive after 8pm. There's a food hall there with the normal selection of asian/american/australian sellers and the dining area is kept very clean. We ate there, and also at Barnacle Bill Seafood Restaurant and the Banana Leaf (modern Asian), both on the Esplanade and were fantastic for the quality of food and service.

Il Palazzo was simply the perfect place for us to stay in Cairns! We asked for a room facing the pool (quieter) and although there was construction going on behind the hotel/pool, it didn't disturb us thanks to the heavy sliding glass doors facing on to the pool.

The apartments are spacious, clean and provide everything you could need for your stay. If you happen to think of anything else you need the staff couldn't be more helpful and accomdating. We were totally confused about which trips etc we wanted to take during our short four day stay. The lady on reception spent a good half hour taking us through all the various options and then happily booked our trips for us (and they were all brilliant too!). They had a ready smile first thing every morning and asked us about our day every evening when we returned.

In terms of the room, the bed was comfy, shower was excellent, washer and dryer were very handy, kitchen was small but had everything we needed...really I couldn't recommend this place more!

I stayed here with my Dad for two nights and we loved the central location and the people on reception, particularly Frances, could not have been more helpful.
The only fly in the ointment was that our reservation had been lost, so we were lucky a room was available. Our room faced the main road, a bit noisy, and I do recommend you ask specifically for a room at the back of the hotel, facing the pool.
The one bedroom suite we had was great, all the facilities, and there were two doors into the bathroom so that each of us could get in without disturbing the other if we were sleeping.
I would thorough recommend a stay here to anyone coming to Cairns.

We stayed for five nights in August. I don't know how full the hotel was, but we were put in a room facing the main road, and opposite was a huge construction site....I had a nice time looking at all those hunky guys, but the delivery trucks and concrete mixers did put a bit of a dampner on things. Would have much preferred a room facing maybe the pool...??? The room itself was quite nice. The major problem was the bedroom. The air conditioner is placed at the foot of the bed, so if you have it on during the night, it blows directly onto your face...If you turn if off you get rather warm. We couldn't access the wardrobe because the bedside table was jammed right up against it....so rather squashy. We had just come up from a HUGE apartment in Airley Beach, so maybe we were comparing. The bed also was rather "squashy"...and we had "bum clash"...O.K. if you are on your honeymoon, but we have been married for 30+ years, so are don't really need to be soooo close to each other. Central Location was terrific...right next to the night markets, and a short stroll to the Esplanade. Staff on the desk, also very pleasant, and quite helpful.....We are coming back to Cairns in December, but have decided to try some where else. King Size bed for us this time round.

A lovely hotel with friendly, helpful staff. We had a spotless room with plenty of space and a very comfortable bed. The balcony overlooked the street outside but we didn't suffer much from traffic noise - the street was quite quiet actually despite being right in the centre.

The location is handy for the bars, coffee shops, restaurants and seafront and there is a fantastic food hall nearby with a good variety of international eateries under one roof (why don't we have these in the UK??).

Can't remember exactly the rate we paid but it was reasonable. We'd recommend the Il Palazzo highly.
