Have just recently returned from a stay in Cairns, at the 181. Overall very happy with the accommodation - clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. As mentioned by previous reviews, the town centre is about 15/20 min walk away. We did not find this a problem as 1) there was just about always no car parking on the restaurant strip (so we walked or took a taxi), and 2) the location was relatively quite. Balcony and view were great. Jo and Jack were very helpfull. Our aircon worked all OK. So really - no complaints - would reccommend - and the ultimate test - yes we would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: The Cairns Base Hospital (which is on the left hand side ((looking from the Esplanade)) is doing add...

We had a 2 bedroom apartment for 2 nights for our family. 2 full baths were nice. One of them had a spa bath, an unusual circular shape that wasn't necessarily comfortable, but a novelty. Very clean, nicely decorated. Living room furniture was comfortable, very informal. Had air conditioning, which was a necessity with the heat/humidity, but didnt care for the face that you had to choose to cool either the living area or the bedrooms (day/night setting). Reception was helpful, but no one at the desk after 6 p.m. Family enjoyed the pool/hot tub. Beds were comfortable and kitchen and balcony were nice. Pretty view. Walking into town was about a 20 minute hike, not too bad if the weather is good, but the weather was always rainy so we found the distance inconvenient and ended up taking more taxi rides than planned.

Great views however it is a bit long walk to nightlife area.
We stayed in 2 bed room apartment.
Kitchen and living room were well equipped, furniture was nice and clean.

Aircon wasn't working properly, night/day switch wasn't doing anything so we end up with chilled bedrooms and hot and humid living room.
There were also weird noises coming from aircon and light sleepers might have a problem to get their sleep.

Mattresses were pretty good however combination of tilled floor and bed on wheels - it isn't good idea. The beds were traveling around the room whenever we moved.
Although we several times asked manager to solve the problem and he promised, nothing happened.

There was nice spacious balcony with chairs and table. Should we had a better weather we would really enjoy to spend a time there.

We hit the tropical rains with cyclone forming nearby, hence we decided to cut short our break. There was a heavy rain everyday with short breaks when it has changed to showers.
Accommodation was almost empty, there were just few apartments booked.

We were really disappointed that we had to pay for the rest of the stay, so un-australian.
The hotel was not fully booked, the weather was as bad as it gets in tropical Queensland and manager did not re-consider to give us a slack...

Overall the place was pretty good choice for the families with the kids, I would not recommend the place for young travelers due to location.

Value for money - unfortunately like the the most of accommodation in Australia of these days - way overpriced

Room Tip: Ask for the ocean view room on 3rd floor and higher

We stayed here for a few days inrecently having read about it on the net. We stayed in a 2 bed appt that faced the ocean. Wonderful views and great location. About 15 mins walk along the Esplanade into Cairns which is a great walk in itself. Whole appt was huge and spacious. We had 2 beds and 2 bathrooms one with a spa bath. It was very clean and had every gadget and utensil you would want. Plenty of parking at the back and easy pick up for tours that we did out of Cairns. Very helpful staff who were very knowledgeable about the area and tours. I know ours had been recently renovated. Had 2 balconies and you could see pool from both. Our kids spent hours in pool and altho it is not huge certainly was great to have on site as you can't swim in the ocean. Also has a nice BBQ area. At present there is a huge building being built next to it on one side so I would definitely check out what side your apartment is on before booking as it could be noisy. Having said that we heard nothing. Great value and we were lucky enough to get 5 nights for the price of 4. I think the location was perfect compared to some of the apartments we saw and would definitely stay there next time.

Room Tip: The higher up you go the better the view. Also check which way the room faces ie to the ocean or m...

Having left this booking up to my brother-in-law I hadn't known what to expect. The room wasn't ready when we arrived, which was fine as we were early. Jo was extremely accommodating and said we could use facilities, however we walked into town to get our bearings. When I got back a little later than hubby and his brother, they pretended it was below par and were considering moving. So with some trepidAtion I got into the lift and....well I had nothing to worry about! As other reviewers have mentioned the two room, two bathroom set up was perfect, with plentiful views and balconies, sea facing. It meant we couldn't hear the construction site on Monday and Tuesday so we had a peaceful stay.
Rooms: they looked recently renovated (or very well kept) the kind of decor and comfort from a five-star hotel although being self catering apartments they didn't lack a homely feel. The living area was probably the most outdated area, and the furniture a bit tired but we didn't spend much time there in our three night stay. One bathroom had a circular bath and the shower was fine, the other was a little smaller but perfectly formed.
Service: whilst we kept ourselves to ourselves, there was always someone on hand to book things, and even help when I had a packed lunch packing problem!
Services: the pool area is on the small side with perhaps dingy changing areas, but large enough generally to feel like you can lose yourself on a lounger for a couple of hours. It was well maintained but could do with some shelter for us Brits becoming acclimatised to the heat...
Location: it's at the very end of the end, so about a 25 min walk into the main Cairns drag. Ok on cool days, stifling on hot days! We were close to a very down to earth pub, but you do have to go further in for any sign of nightlife.
Overall: if we got the same rooms again, I'd be a happy gal! I recommend self catering as there is a little bit more of a relaxed atmosphere and the cooking facilities were fine. Just watch out for the weird a/c noises during the night which had the risk of keeping a light sleeper awake.

Room Tip: We stayed on the top floor, dual aspect apartment.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment, that had front ocean views. Was an excellent apartment with lounge, separate dining, kitchen and a laundry. The bedrooms were great as well and both had a wonderful view of the ocean and one also of the mountains! Main bedroom had a large ensuite and walk-in wardrobe. The second bathroom is just outside th e second bedroom and quite spacious. Our apartment was on the fourth floor- room 17. As it was a Saturday night, we were offered a late check-out "if we needed it" and I thought this was a wonderful gesture. Next day we rang reception to see if there was a one bedroom apartment available as our friends had left for Adelaide. My husband was advised to "stay put where you are" for less than half the price of a 2 bedroom apartment. We were thrilled not be moving anywhere. Little things like these maketh a place and makes you want to return over and over again.
Beautiful walk along the boardwalk to the centre of Cairns takes around 15 minutes, which we enjoyed immensely. As the name suggests, 181 the Esplanade IS on the esplanade, but the main parking area and luggage excess is through Lake street. We found this out the next day!! All in all, we will be visiting again!!! Thank you 181!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: If you are looking for ocean views, then ask for oceanfront room as there are some with minimal ocea...

We booked here for 2 nights. I was a bit worried after I read a couple of not so good reviews and when we arrived I asked reception if we had one of the nice apartments to which she replied "they're all nice". Our apartment was gorgeous, very spacious and great views of the harbour and mountains. We had a 2 bed 2 bathroom apartment. There was only 2 of us but definitely enough room for a family of 4. Apartment is very clean and has fully equipped kitchen and laundry. It is approx 10-15 minute walk from the centre of Cairns city, but we had a car so it wasnt an issue for us. It is a very nice walk in along the boardwalk if you dont have car. Parking is free which is a plus. There is a construction site next door so if you like sleeping during the day you might want to check if it has finished. We, didnt notice the noise when we were in our apartment, maybe because we were on the opposite side. The only negative I have is the pool looks like it needs an upgrade. Looking down from our apartment it looked a bit shabby and uninviting. Overall though, we loved our stay here and would definitely come back. Great value for what you get.

Room Tip: While construction is happening request room on opposite side.
