“Best value Cairns hotel”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

We live in the country but stay overnight in Cairns about 4 times a year. We need the services of a good value hotel that is clean and well positioned. The Acacia Court Hotel fills this niche quite admirably. We do not need hotel staff with the fake smiles and being told to have a great day and you don't get that here.

Room Tip: The rooms with a view over the Esplanade are more expensive. We are happy with the cheaper rooms.

Here recently for 7 nights. Not once did the owners/managers sey hello or acknowledge me (or anyone else for that matter) even though they cant miss you. You are right by the reception desk on every entry/exit to the hotel Very interesting management style for a hotel. Very.

Best view from room over esplanade and ocean, shame about the early flights departing cns airport, sleeping past 5.30am challenging ifmthe sound of jet engines are, likely to wake you.

Room clean and housekeeping ladies friendly and bed ok, tv fine as was air cond nice and quiet. Decor, challenging, but for the $$, the challenge ok.

Arrived at 4pm to check in and waited 25 minutes in a queue. the receptionist did not ask for any identification, instead just asked for our surname and handed us our towels as she informed us there would not be any in the room. While going up in the lift, there is a sign indictating the guest that when having a shower you must leave the bathroom door open and a window open in the bedroom to stop the fire alarm being triggered and if the fire brigade was called we were then liable for the cost of the call out. When we got into the room the cleaner was still there and we waited 10 minutes outside for her to finish. When we finally got into our room, we found the clean sheets were still wet. I rang house keeping and told them the sheets were wet and was told she would have someone fix it but no one ever did come. Bad night sleep with damp sheets and a very uncomfortable bed. We ordered room service(cheese platter and bowl of chips) it arrived 45minutes later and was a Woolworths bought cheese platter and the chips were cold and soggy and unedible. While checking out we were made to wait again. Overall a very bad experience, we wish we had gone next door to the Mercure.

Room Tip: Don't go there, go next door to The Mercure

Every employee at this hotel was very nice!

The price was cheap and our room faced the ocean. We didn't have enough time to see the islands but 2 things I highly recommend: go see the largest rainforest and dive or snorkel the Great Barrier Reef. We snorkeled and had a blast.

If you like to dance go to the bar next to the yacht club. We had a wonderful time and nice outdoor bar.

This hotel is kind of far from downtown so wear comfy shoes and walk everywhere .

The bartender at this hotel was super nice and thanks for the ice pitchers!!!

Great Budget Accommodation, friendly reception and dniing room staff, clean rooms, adequate beds, great seafood buffet nightly at 6pm. I would recommend paying a little extra and include B&B, breakfast is well worth enjoying.
Pro's, nightly seafood buffet at Charlies, Ocean view rooms, quiet locality although a little our of cairns city, Taxi's and local buses available.
Con's, bed's not as firm as desired, and in flight path or arriving aircraft.

We stayed here for a night and intended staying for 2 nights on our return to Cairns. We arrived early at about 10 am from an early flight and received an unfriendly welcome. We couldn't check in which is fair enough but told to just sit and wait. We checked after half an hour to see if a room was ready but told to come and check again in another half hour or so. We were grateful to check in when we did but felt awkward. The receptionist grew on us after our initial experience. It is good value for money although room is a bit dated. Stayed at the Mercure next door on our return for about $50 extra a night. Room was same layout with similar views over the Esplanade but the staff were very friendly and the hotel more modern. We felt more comfortable staying there.

Room Tip: Don't expect to get an early check in.

Things that could be improved:

1. Have reserved parking for hotel guests, especially on weekend nights so that guests don't have to park out in the street while restaurant guests can park in the hotel park. Very frustrating.

2. If you have paid for a room that has three beds how about having three towels so that all three guests can use one each.

3. Air conditioning vents could do with a clean as could the shower exhaust vent.

Other than that, happy customers again. Good value for money. Good location and great views of the esplanade. Just hope that something is done about the parking before next time. It would just make life a bit easier....
