“Stay away!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2008

This was our first visit to Australia and we knew that our hotel, the Acacia Court, was only a 2 star but when we arrived we found our room to be damp and dirty. The room stank of cigarette smoke (as did the whole hotel) even though we had requested a non smoking room (and the hotel was not full). The bathroom was mouldy and had definitely seen better days! Some of the reception staff were a bit grumpy and the restaurant was extremely expensive.
However the Esplanade location was beautiful and only a fifteen minute walk to the centre of Cairns. There is also a very helpful independant tour arranger that is located at the foyet of the Acacia Court that will give you a lot of good advice about local restaurants and attractions.
Overall, if we were to visit Cairns again we would not stay at the Acacia Court.

The Acacia Court is a large, well established (1980s?) hotel on the northern edge of the foreshore in Cairns. It is a 2km walk down The Esplanade to the attractions and excitements of central Cairns. This doesn't sound like very far ... but it is a long and challenging hike in the heat of a summer day (especially if you plan to walk both ways!).

On the other hand, the Acacia Court would be a very reasonable place to stay if you had your own (air-conditioned!) car to travel around town in. It is clean, the beds are comfortable, and there are attractive views on both sides of the hotel (one towards the mountains, the other towards the water). We enjoyed taking in the mountain views from our balcony.

We didn't eat at the restaurant but noticed the buffet was generally very popular in the evenings.

The pool is quite pleasant, but is directly adjacent to the restaurant area. So if you feel like a morning swim, you will get people watching you while eating their eggs, etc. This doesn't seem ideal but in fairness we noticed quite a few of the other hotels in Cairns have the same arrangement. The pool closes early (6pm), so it is not an issue at dinner.

There is a very reasonably-priced liquor store in the foyer.

Stayed in tower section (which costs more)but was pleased with stay. Have stayed here before and will return again.
Room was comfortable and clean. Charlie's for breakfast started the day well.

I stayed in this hotel for 7 nights in March 2005. The room was clean and well equiped. its location was excellent and not too far from the city. The restaurant (charlies) was excellent. The reception staff were polite and efficient. The Tour desk manager was incredibly helpful. I wouldnt hesitate to stay here again, i really enjoyed it.

The Acacia Hotel is a pleasant hotel, approx 2km from central Cairns (a pleasant walk along the esplanade) and has ocean views. Hotel has small clean pool and attentive staff. The restaurant based at the hotel 'Charlies' is good value for money and offers breakfast and evening meals at very competative prices. The rooms are clean and adequate for your needs. Quite near airport but noise not too much of a problem.

Trips can be booked from a trip adviser in the lobby and advice on local amenities are offered gladly here.

I stayed in a mountain view room not the so-called economy motel rooms and it was the worst hotel I have stayed in for many years and not what I would expect from a Best Western.

The room was old-fashioned, dirty and dated. I really felt as if this room had not been touched since about 1970 - everything flooring, bathroom, furniture was ancient and worn. The TV was about 20 years old and didn't have any AV inputs (for digital camera users).

To complete the experience the bed had horrible light grey sheets. They probably were clean but they didn't look it.

Additionally the location of this hotel is awful. It is at the far end of the esplanade, past the hospital and is a very far walk from town (approximately half an hour) and once it is dark it is not a particularly pleasant walk.

This hotel is seriously shoddy and would only offer value for money if you are paying less than 60 dollars a night. I will never set foot in this place again and will carefully consider before booking any other Best Western.
