This was the first time we traveled on a small plane like this, so it was something new and we were slightly unsure what to expect. After emailing Greg for a while, we decided to go for it. We never spent this much on a tour but thought it would be worth it.
Judy picked us up right on time from our hotel. We were told to bring water and they will have everything else. Greg obviously paid attention to small details as our tour time was moved a bit later than usual due to high tide on the island (so we can spend more time during the low tide which makes snorkeling easier). We were given all the snorkeling gears and after a briefing by Greg who gave us an overview of what to expect and what we would see (with a sence of humor), off we went.
My daughter (13) got to sit by the pilot in the copilot seat (awesome!). The plane obviously was not brand new but definitely was in a good condition and comfortable (not old as mentioned by two other reviewers on this forum). The view of the reef from the plane was breathtaking. We know the reef is large, but to see it for oursleves is just amazing.
We arrived after one hour flight. Then we walked to the beach (10 minutes). It was baking hot on the way and we were glad we brought umbrellas. Once on the beach it was not bad as there were shades and breeze was blowing. The beach was gorgeous with white fine sand and we saw shark and ray right away from the shore. We jumped into a small canal leading to the ocean and then snorkeled. The reef was really healthy with lots of soft corals, all kinds of fish, huge purple and yellow tiger paw clams. We also saw octopus, ray and clown fish as well as bright blue sea star.
Lunch was very delicious with prawns, pasta salad, sandwiches, fresh fruits and soft drinks (not 5 crackers as mentioned in another review). There was wine too but we didn't drink any. There were birds on the beach too (yellow bellied sunbird, silver gull and beautiful doves). We snorkeled one more time after lunch then my daughter played on the beach which was full of little snails and small living things.
Six hours went by too fast. We left and flew back by Daintree forest. We visited the area by car the day before but it gave us a totally different perspective seeing it from the air. The forest was so lush and green. It was a very beautiful sight.
Greg greeted us upon arriving. Ben was our pilot (who was also our guide during snorkeling and also set up lunch for us). He was very genuine and kind. We were driven to our hotel by Judy.
We would definitely do it all over again. This was a high lightof our trip and quite a memorable day.
If anything, the speaker in the plane did not work that well, but the view trumped the description by a thousand-fold.
