“Excellent”

Great service and the German sausages and Sauerkraut were well presented and very tasty. The German beer also tasted great on a rather hot day.

“Something different”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2013 via mobile

Been to the old location a few times for the pork knuckle. You best go in with an empty stomach and pack a defibrillator. The knuckles are massive and oozing with goodness. The service was hit and miss and the prices are a little on the high end. However, we are looking forward to trying the new spot when next we visit.

open air café- with lots of good cheer. Schnitzel just like my mother made! Service was prompt and solicitous.

“nice beer!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013 via mobile

had a nice dark wheat beer ..in a lovely glass! ;-) ...food was a little inconsistent, some portions were huge and others bearly enough....not a cheap night out, but a tourist trap on the Esplanade!!

“Great Fathers Day Lunch!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

Having recently moved to the esplanade, it seems that it is not just the location that has greatly improved but the service, food and atmosphere as well!

Sunday, being Fathers Day, was busy but the server sat us quickly and took our order in a timely way. Drinks were brought out quickly as well, deliciously cold cider and a well poured litre of beer.

There are many dishes on the menu but we went for the classic Pork knuckle and Wurstplatte (selection of sausages), with a chicken nuggets for our daughter. The children's serve was generous and she said it was delicious with the nuggets actually tasting like chicken!

The pork knuckle was a great serving size but a little overdone, so the skin was slightly bitter, and meat a little dry, where the char was. After adding some seasoning it was better and the jus accompaniment was delicious as well (we just wished there was more). The texture of the mashed potatoes was great and the rosemary gave them a slightly smoky flavour.
The Wurstplatte had a selection of sausages: Chorizo, Bratwurst, slices of Strassburg sausage and Nürnberger sausage, served with Sauerkraut, light ryebread & mustard (which like the jus, we wanted more!) The sauerkraut was fresh testing and not too briney, really moreish and all the sausages were grilled nicely with a good snap on the casing. The only thing I would do different is offer mash or chips with the meal instead of the bread, but otherwise sausagy deliciousness!
Overall a great fathers day lunch and we will be back!
