“Surprising gem”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

If you can, allow more time than you might think to spend in Kuranda township: there is an amazing amount of arts & crafts stalls to see with something for all tastes. From the cable car & stops, the view over the rainforest & rivers are magnificent. The scenic railway trip had lots of historical information from the attendant & offered views not seen from the cable car.

The website doesn’t make it clear but you are able to book departure times every 15 mins on Skyrail & if returning by the scenic railway it is possible to depart 3:30pm. We booked our tickets & then rang the office to have changes made. These were updated on our booking reservation number & effortlessly changed on our tickets when we printed them on the day.

Everything else was very well arranged. We walked around the lookouts at Red Peak & spent 20 mins in the CSIRO display at Barron Falls. There were free umbrellas for use at the two cable car stops; there is no food or water at the two stops, but there are toilets. The estimate of 90 mins for the cable car trip to the top was spot on.

We arrived at Kuranda & recc’ed out the place for lunch. After lunch we found we were still rushing to get between all of the stalls & points of interest to get back for the train at 2pm.

“Vertigo sufferers beware”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

I didn't know I had vertigo until we started our journey on the cable car, never been so scared. Once I got over the fear the sights were amazing, when we reached Kurunda village it was a little touristy for me although I loved the wildlife and got to cuddle a koala

“sky rail to kuranda”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

was in port douglas for one night, went to kuranda, used the skyrail both ways, as we didnt have the time to take the train.sky rail is abt 40 mins from the bottom to the top, with no stops.kuranda village is quaint, busy, lots of market stalls.walked around found more family and then we all went back down, stopping twice along the way to get out and have a look.a few steps to contend with, but just magicial rainforest.staff very friendly.helped us recommend another place for lunch in cairns, near the yacht club, salt house bar and grill, great pub meal and cold beer went down well.

“Skyrail provides a fabulous view”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

We didn't do a tour but just bought our own tickets up to Kuranda by skyrail and down by scenic railway. We drove to the carpark and had pre purchased our tickets online with the skyrail company to save 5%. There are 6 to a cable car but there was only 4 of us so we had the car to ourselves. The views over the rainforest and to the ocean are magnificent. There are 2 stops along the way which were short but informative. A great way to travel to kuranda which is a small village with lots of shops and cafes. Also a nice 2.3km rainforest walk, a venom zoo, a butterfly sanctuary and a koala garden. Well worth the trip.
