Owner description: Frankland Islands Cruise offers visitors the #1 nature based island tour on the Great Barrier Reef. Totally uninhabited, Normanby Island is a national park and the destination for guest on board Frankland Island Cruises. The largest of the Frankland Islands, the island is part coral cay and part continental island, with a healthy and vibrant fringing coral community. The island boasts an abundance of plant and wildlife species, vibrant and colourful rainforest which is met by beautiful, unspoilt beaches and brilliant coral gardens which are home to tropical fish, giant clams and, most notably, green sea turtles. Your day begins with a drive south of Cairns and a morning cruise along the Mulgrave river, giving you the chance to spot a crocodile in the wild. From the mouth of the river your destination on the Great Barrier Reef is already in sight, making it the shortest open sea crossing in North Queensland. With maximum daily passenger numbers of 100, and a high crew to passenger ratio, a Cairns Great Barrier Reef day trip to the Frankland Islands ensures you an intimate, personal and unforgettable tropical Island experience from Cairns and the northern beaches.

“A memorable experience”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

We're an older couple, chose this trip because we really wanted to see the reef and fish ourselves, rather than watch everyone else. The short drive south of Cairns was a great way to start, enhanced by a short cruise down the Mulgrave R before heading out to sea to the Normanby Island. The island is advertised as being part coral cay, part continental island and is so picturesque surrounded by clear aqua water. We were fitted for our diving gear, shown how to use it etc. We were so apprehensive and determined to snorkel today or never. Many thanks to our wonderful guide Ziggy who helped us get in and out of the water and towed us around the reefs, even diving to the clams. We weren't disappointed, there were so many fish and different reefs with such a variety of corals. We didn't see any turtles, but others did. We had a short island tour, a lovely lunch and we returned to our hotel having fulfilled a dream to see the coral and fish for ourselves.
Thank you so much again Ziggy, you're a treasure.

“Fantastic day for all ages and abilities”
Reviewed October 11, 2013 via mobile

Our family of five after much deliberation chose Frankland island to experience some of the Great Barrier Reef and it was a great choice . We chose Frankland as it was a little cheaper than many of the other options and a shorter journey out to the reef. I also liked the idea of having a beach to snorkel off for the younger children. We self drove from palm cove , although we could have chosen a pick up from Cairns. When we arrived on the island the younger two children went with the kids club which they both loved ( even the much too old for this 11 year old) I went with the older daughter advanced snorkelling which was also amazing. My children saw turtles and sharks and we all saw a large array of marine creatures. My husband particularly enjoyed the informative island tour. They obviously hold safety as very important and there was always staff watching the beach ( on land and In boat) for anyone having difficulty .
In general fantastic day out , lovely staff and the highlight of our holiday . ( just watch the sunburn if you are snorkelling for long periods , I found sitting down a little tricky the next day )

“Just what we were looking for!”
Reviewed October 10, 2013 via mobile

Went on this day trip after having been to outer reef. This was perfect because we just wanted to be given snorkels and left to do our own thing and that is exactly what we did. It was great and we loved the fact that the island is uninhibited and therefore unspoiled.

“Beautiful day out”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

Had the good fortune of having an absolutely perfect day. Despite being at almost full capacity (87 people) the trip was incredibly well organised and run for the day. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our guide did a great job during the island guided tour, which was really interesting. Although there were organised activities, if you just wanted to hang out and do your own thing that was perfectly fine also. Lunch was plentiful and lovely with a variety of salads, seafood and cold meat to choose from. Had a great time snorkeling, quite a variety of fish life to be seen right off the beach. Since it is so close to the coast, i highly recommend it to people who don't want to spend half the day travelling on a boat just to get to the reef. This way you get there quick, and have much more time to do what you like.

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback and uploading photo's from your day on the island. As the only commercial operator permitted to visit Frankland Islands, you'll only bump into others from our boat. With a capacity of only 100, you can truly have an exclusive natural tropical island experience. Hope you have a chance to pop up from Brissie again in the future.

“Great family day out !”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

I was very fortunate to win a double pass to the Frankland Island and took my husband. We took our grandsons aged 14,12 & 10 also a friend with her son who is special needs.
We couldn't have had a better day ! The staff were friendly, informative with their knowledge and very patient with everyones demands on the day.
We all loved the snorkelling tour and the boys enjoyed learning on the Eco tour around the island. The gear was well maintained and cleaned after each use....comforting :)
The lunch supplied was perfect with something for all tastes. The island is a natural, tropical paradise and we will certainly be telling our friends and going back again.
We jagged a day with perfect conditions....fantastic......thanks again !!

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback. The crew loved having you guy's onboard and would love to see you pop down for another visit sometime in the future. If you visit during the Queensland School Holiday's, the boy's could even join our kids club and explore the island looking for hidden treasure with our friendly Pirate.
