“Beautiful change of landscape from tropical Cairns”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2014 via mobile

A nice day/half day trip recommended from Cairns to see different landscapes, drive through different towns, stopping along the way at various attractions. Recommended route from Cairns is on Gillies Highway up mountain to Yungaburra, Malanda, Atherton, Mareeba then back via Kennedy Highway. Beware of car motion sickness on the winding roads of Gillies highway but the drive is worth it. On way to Yarrabunga take a left turnoff to Cathedral Fig Tree (drive about 5 mins down) & it's a short walk through dense foliage to get to see this enormous tree with vibes entwined (looks like it belongs in Game of Thrones!), we saw a little pup (must've been a feral dog) running around & bush poultry lining the road. Yarrabunga is a pretty town, visit Malanda (has 2 op shops for those that like vintage shopping lol) & a nice watering hole of fresh water near the info centre on left as you approach Malanda. Not a pretty looking town but a knock about, working town. Drive to Atherton is a nice with flat & rolling landscape. Atherton is quite nice with a population of about 11,000. Nice place to stop for lunch. On way to Atherton you can visit the Golden Drop Mango wine place. Drive through Mareeba & then a short drive back to Cairns. Kennedy Highway connects to the entrance of Smithfield Shopping Centre. A nice day trip in car as a rest day between tours, activities.

“Coffee shops and other interests”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2014

Jacques Coffee Plantation and Coffee works - do them in that order. Couple of others very ordinary. Wine? forget it they are very amateurish and not worth the visit. Cheese factory (can't remember it's name) is really low level and cheeses are poorer than supermarket fayre.

Made the day trip drive from Port Douglas and was left scratching my head a bit and wishing I'd just spent the day relaxing!

Maybe I missed the point, and also the weather wasn't great, but the scenery wasn't all that and there weren't too many attractions I was concerned with.

“Mt Quincan Crater Retreat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2014

We just spent 3 nights at Mt Quincan Crater Retreat in the Atherton Tablelands, Queensland, Australia.

What a fantastic experience.

The rainforest tree house accommodation was superb. Beautiful bush walks in the rainforest and crater. Fantastic wild life viewing including the rare Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo.

A very restful and enjoyable break, thanks to hosts Dennis and Louise.

“Ellinjaa Falls, Millaa Millaa”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2014

Very short dive from Millaa Millaa and then an easy 5-10 minute walk on concrete pathway with steps to the base of the falls. Stunning rainforest pool with the waterfall cascading into a deeper section which was very refreshing to swim in. Great for kids.
