“A relaxing day in the sun.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2013 via mobile

Green Island is situated just over an hour's catamaran trip from Cairns. I would recommend the trip to those who only have a short time in the Cairns area and would still like to experience a snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef. The staff is friendly and the service is very efficient. The base fare is $84AUD and that includes snorkel gear or a glass bottom boat ride. Everything else (except tea, coffee & water) is extra.)
The coral and sea life is not as stunning as what is found on any trip to the outer reef but we saw a reasonable variety of fish and a sea turtle. Weather was stunning and the sea was calm. We had a very enjoyable day.

“Low tides need good information”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2013

Yesterday was the worst possible tide for a day at Green Island, very low tide in the middle of the day. My family still had the best of experiences. We got a good price family ticket and snorkelled non stop from our arrival at 10ish until 12. We saw rays, turtles, a huge variety of corals, so many giant giant clams and a ridiculous amount of fish. Best advice from the cabin crew was stick as near as you can to the jetty all the way out to the outer reef if you are a strong swimmer. Of course they were right. After three trips to the lunch buffet we all walked around the island (takes 20 mins max if fit), had a drink and then went back out to snorkel the deep bits even though the tide was out. The fish were still there.
It was such a calm trip out and back due to low winds. Saw a whale from afar on the way back.

Thank you. Great day, great price.

Half day would be a no no with a low tide.

Dear Leigh,

Thank you so much for your review. Great to see such a positive review on a low tide day, simply proving that you can still snorkel and see plenty of coral and marine life on days like this.

Great to hear that our staff are giving out good snorkelling advice for strong swimmers also.

Thanks once again for taking the time to write this, if you took any photos that you would like to share, feel free to post these on this site or our Facebook site.

Regards,

“Altogether a great day out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2013

We missed out on the 9am departure so had to book 11am but were very happy as it was a faster trip out to Green Island and we still has a similar amount of time there. We did lunch, semisubmersible and glass bottom boat and all were coordinated excellently leaving us 45 mins after lunch and 45 mins before departing to snorkel. We had perfect weather with a smooth sail out and back and the water was nice and clear. We got to see lots of different fish and a huge turtle swam along side the wharf to see us off. Lunch was nice and plentiful, the staff friendly and helpful. The commentary on all boats was clear and helpful. A whale was sighted in the distance as we were leaving and the captain tried to get us closer but the whale wasn't interested in hanging around for us - we were very happy he at least tried. We had a few companies to choose from but were happy we chose this one and I would recommend it highly. Thanks everyone for a great, memorable day out.

“Turtles, Sharks, Giant Clams, and Fish!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2013

I booked the 11 AM tour via Viator. The check-in process was fast. I was quite surprised the staffs could speak Japanese fluently.

1. cruising to the Green Island was nothing exciting.
2. renting snorkeling equipment requires 10-20 AUD deposit. Bring a spare bag to keep all the items. There's a small area for you to snorkel and see small fish and seaweeds. The real highlight lies deep beneath the surface.
3. Glass-bottom boat brightened my disappointing mood (as snorkeling was not a worthwhile choice of activity). I saw big turtles, sharks, giant clams, and many more.
4. Semi-submarine was the most exciting part of the day. It's an efficient way to explore the marine life without getting wet. It's such a close encounter!

**Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Park costs 18 AUD for the entry.
