Owner description: Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am-9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday-9pm Wednesday all year round.

Really lovely day spent at the lagoon - right in the heart of town. Facilities are very good and you basically have everything on hand - well worth a visit!

When I think of going to my happy place in my mind, I think of Cairns lagoon. It gives me great pleasure to review one of my favourite parts of Australia. I would come here at night and to put my legs in the water while sipping on a coconut. This is the perfect place for everyone, no matter what age. It is safe, beautifully decorated and it is just a beautiful environment to be in. You are surrounded by beautiful mango and frangipani trees, decorated in the unique hand made lanterns by local Cairns artists. There are happy people everywhere just enjoying their time in the tropics. The water temperature in the pool is perfect and it is well supervised by on duty lifeguards. There are shallow parts with fountains for the little ones to play and then deeper parts for everyone else. Plenty of free BBQ's and benches to have dinner/lunch. Change rooms and a kiosk. Across the road there are tons of restaurants and cafe's, perfect for a dinner or lunch after a swim. I love being there at night, because little bats hide in the trees and then come out to fly. They are beautiful to watch and really add to the experience while you're in the lagoon. I can't wait to come back here, perfect happy place.

I'd move to Cairns for this pool and the whole Esplanade and Board walk area. The pool is beautiful...we swam once in our short stay...wished we'd done more! Always 2 lifeguards on duty, super clean, looks gorgeous, always lots of people enjoying it! Fabulous!!! A brilliant place for all to enjoy!

Beautifully maintained and safe environment to relax in with a nice view out to the sea. This place was full of bathers all day relaxing by the pool or on the surrounding grassy areas. The cafe on site is useful and if that's not enough, Cairns main centre is on the other side of the road. The local council also provide free wifi with an excellent signal around the Lagoon and you can see people all round the park until the wee small hours congregating at various spots to catch up with their internet access. My hotel didn't provide free wifi, so I was down here every night and met a few friendly people in a similar position in the process. Well done Cairns - a well thought out public amenity.
