Owner description: Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am - 9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday - 9pm Wednesday all year round. While you are on the Cairns Esplanade why not check out the Cottage Industry Market, 8am - 4pm every Saturday, in the Plaza just next to the Lagoon. Why not enjoy the weekend's live music featuring local bands with the stage set up next to the Lagoon. The Cairns Esplanade also boasts Beach Volleyball Courts, Bouldering Park, Skate Park, BBQs, Active Living Fitness Classes, Muddy's Playground, Funship Playgrounds and so much more, all free for casual use. Come along and enjoy!

amazing place and great energy. pool for all ages and hieghts of children - 1 ft to around 5 ft. sea water and sand gives you a very different fealing as if you are in a small enclosed sea beach. composite washrooms so not a problem, though they close them for cleaning in the afternoon. pool open till late evenings - around 8 or 9 pm when the life guards leave and the washrooms are closed. very child friendly. adjacent to large greens so the children can play around as well. around 100 meters away from city centre so ample eating and shoping. adjacent to iconic baord walk so very happening always.

This is probably one of the nicest harbourside attractions we have seen anywhere. There are loads of restaurants nearby, McDonalds with its 30 cent ice creams next to the pool, and the pool is just beautiful. There is no fee to just jump right in. Wonderful!

This is one of the best public space pools in Australia. Right on the foreshore and shallow with wide areas of grass to sit/ BBQ's and family areas. A must do in Cairns

“The Pool”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

It is very safe, swimming in the bay is not an option... The bay is habitat for salt water crocodile....... So yes the pool is a safer option..... It's very big.... they have a life guard and it is surrounded by shade trees and it's right across the road from some great eateries....
