Owner description: Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am - 9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday - 9pm Wednesday all year round. While you are on the Cairns Esplanade why not check out the Cottage Industry Market, 8am - 4pm every Saturday, in the Plaza just next to the Lagoon. Why not enjoy the weekend's live music featuring local bands with the stage set up next to the Lagoon. The Cairns Esplanade also boasts Beach Volleyball Courts, Bouldering Park, Skate Park, BBQs, Active Living Fitness Classes, Muddy's Playground, Funship Playgrounds and so much more, all free for casual use. Come along and enjoy!

“Bit crowded”
Reviewed May 21, 2013

Nice spot ...man made lagoon with fountains the perfect spot to cool off with a swim. The lagoon is surrounded by lawn and trees so plenty of shade. There are toilets and showers a cafe and free BBQ areas. The main shops, famous night markets and restaurants are just across the road. Down very crowded with mainly backpackers

“Enjoyable place for all”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

Loved that there are lifesavers until after dark... I did not have my watch on. Felt quite safe and it felt quite festive with people around us bbq'ing their dinner on the public bbq's. Water was clean. The pool is closed every Wednesday until 1230 for cleaning. It certainly looks clean. I can imagine it would get crowded in summer. Nice that there are shallows for the kids to play.

“Awesome pool lagoon attached to ocean”
Reviewed May 15, 2013

We were really impressed with this Esplanade swimming lagoon, as we wondered around Cairns after our ship docked there for a day. The weather was very hot, so this was a great place to sit, swim and enjoy a few hours. A must see if you are in the area.
