Owner description: Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am - 9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday - 9pm Wednesday all year round. While you are on the Cairns Esplanade why not check out the Cottage Industry Market, 8am - 4pm every Saturday, in the Plaza just next to the Lagoon. Why not enjoy the weekend's live music featuring local bands with the stage set up next to the Lagoon. The Cairns Esplanade also boasts Beach Volleyball Courts, Bouldering Park, Skate Park, BBQs, Active Living Fitness Classes, Muddy's Playground, Funship Playgrounds and so much more, all free for casual use. Come along and enjoy!

“Wow!!”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

At 10am on a sunny weekday morning, this place has swimmers, sun worshippers, children. No smoking and well supervised. Go Cairns....you could show so many other cities how to do it!

“A great place to unwind”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

Myself and my 10 yo daughter enjoyed the delights of this venue in mid April. Temps were ~ 30°C and the Lagoon offered respite. We attended after 5pm and it was just lovely. It was very relaxed and safe and it was well utilised.

Parking was easy but you need to pay for it.

Great place.

“What a great concept”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

No need to use the pool at our hotel. The swimming lagoon is huge, and very clean with washrooms, showers, picnic area, shade, concessions. Go early to avoid the crowds. Wish we had a lagoon in Vancouver. Perfect way to spend an afternoon.

“What a great concept!”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

Surrounded by great walks and restaurants and shops, the Lagoon is everything a public "park" should be. Whether you wade right in or dangle your feet, the cooling water is a welcome relief from the heat and humidity of the city. This is a public facility that really works.
