Owner description: Seastar Cruises premium reef cruise combines the outer Great Barrier Reef with a coral cay island. In only 1 1/4 hours the fast air-conditioned Seastar 1 can take you from Cairns to magnificent Michaelmas Cay, the largest of the local uninhabited coral cays. Cruising past Green Island, Upolu cay and Oyster reef Seastar is the first boat to arrive. After an enjoyable time here it is a short 20 minute cruise to the splendid Hastings Reef sitting on the very outer edge. This is where the corals thrive, well out from the coast away from the influence the rivers and streams, adjacent to the clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. You will have 2 1/2 hours at each location. Plenty of time to go snorkeling, do a introductory dive, relax on the beach of the Island or join a tour in the Glass Bottom Boat at Hastings Reef. The day cruise on Seastar inlcudes Morning/Afternoon tea, high quality snorkel equipment, Wetsuit or Lycra suit (depending on the time of year), Glass Bottom Boat Tour, Hot & Cold Buffet Lunch, Reef Interpretation & Guided Snorkel Tours on each spot.

“Enjoyable trip”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

We looked at different tours but thankfully ended up going with them and to compare to my last trip with different company, Seastar was great. the cruise was clean and about 35 passenger on board plus professional crew. The food was good (selection of cold salads and chicken).

Our family had the best day out on the reef with Seastar - the crew, the other passengers and especially the weather were just brilliant! Very professional crew, the reef was amazing and we would highly recommend Seastar for your ultimate day on the beautiful Great Barrier Reef!! “Beat Our Expectations”
Reviewed November 2, 2012

This was the first time for both of us on the Reef. I am a good swimmer, but have a healthy fear of the ocean. We were greeted by the Skipper/Owner and welcomed on board! Everyone was extremely attentive and we felt well cared for. Safety and comfort were absolutely top on every crew member's list. Our first stop was Michelmas Cay where we spent a full hour in the water - never have we ever seen such beautiful sights. We had lunch on the way to the outer reef - absolutely everything they advertised and more. Our final stop was the outer reef where again, we had a great time snorkeling. The guided tours were well worth doing. Overall we give them a 5+++.

“SeaStar to the Great Barrier Reef”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

We first did this trip on October 28, 2012 (a Sunday). The boat held 35 people, mostly fairly young and mostly Australians. Right from the get-go we felt at home due to the enthusiasm and friendliness of the boat's crew. First we travelled for about an hour out to Michelmas Cay, an island bird sanctuary right on the reef. Snorkelling their was the best we had ever done, but we then cruised for another 20 minutes out to Holmes Reef for an even better experience. There, the variety and beauty of the coral and the fish life was astounding!

We spent about 2.5 hours at each site and at about 3:00 PM set out for the return trip to Cairns. The water was now choppy and the ride was a bit rough, but I was OK because in the morning I had taken the precaution of buying two seasickness pills from the crew. All in all, my wife and I had a great day with SeaStar.

On October 30 we repeated the same snorkelling trip. We had been so impressed with the crew, the boat, and the snorkelling quality that we decided to not do any more research on alternative companies and trips and just go with a successful situation. The second trip was just as good as the first one and the crew even recognized us as loyal customers by giving us a SeaStar hat and two t-shirts. Highly, highly recommended!
